1.Explain the validity of one process and one content theory of motivation and assess their applicability to scenarios that exist within Scotia Airways.

Answer:

Motivation is the driving force of employees to devote to work. It directly relates to the productivity of operation and development of organization. Content theory contains hygiene factors and motivational factors. Process theory contains Adam’s equity theory.

Hygiene factors are concerned with non-job features such as working environment. They are perceived differences from others and they also contain job security and working conditions, the quality of management, organizational policy and administrative relationship. They consist of salary, holidays, pension rights, medical care and level of supervision. For example, Scotia Airways wants to expand their main business centers in Eastern Europe and the Middle and Far East, so the senior manager must consider the suitable person to work in the new environment and then adjust salary appropriately. It will stimulate the motivation of employees. And medical care is also the necessary guarantee of .working abroad. Then the expansion of business means that they will build new airport, so the management should improve the level or supervision to ensure the reliability of airlines.

Motivational factors relate to a need of personal development. They are divided into sense of achievement, attraction of the job, level of recognition by colleagues and management, level of responsibility and opportunities for advancement and the status provided. Motivational factors include praise, recognition, opportunity for personal growth. Scotia Airways flies directly to some of the well known commercial hubs of Europe and connecting them to the main cities of Scotland. The staff who makes the outstanding achievement in this term could own the serious attention from boss and colleagues and gains the praise, which could bring enthusiasm to staff. And
