Joining Boy Scouts
Joining Boy Scouts I was 11 years old my mom said “Do you want to join boy scouts?” I decided to join because I liked to hike and camp. I had already done cub scouts and wanted to do more outdoors activity. I wanted to be a leader in boy scouts and wanted to instruct younger kids and help them learn. The final reason that I wanted to join boy scouts was because my friends were joining, for example, Connor.
My response to this is I like camping but not so much hiking. I like the leadership because it lets me help people around. The camping is fun to sleep outside and I have made some that I would not have otherwise friends. The hiking is a lot and is boring because nothing exciting happens. I like going to San Diego over the summer

My decision to join the military in general I believe subconsciously started when my older brother returned from Army basic training. While my brother was a pretty smart guy he had never really been to apply himself nor did he have the drive to, but whatever had happened to him during army basic training had made a change in him; a change for the best. He came back and the transformation was evident in every single one of his actions and thoughts. He had a drive to accomplish all of his goals dreams and aspiration, not only that he had the discipline necessary to stay on his new found path. I went on to college in the fall fallowing his return from basic training not sure if these new traits and strength I saw in him would continue or disappear. When I returned home that fall after my first semester and talked to him and I saw the changes had stayed with him and grown even further. With all that he had used the tools he had been given to accomplish so much in already so little of time. All that stayed in my head, but it did not become relevant to me until my sophomore year of college. I realized that while I was…

Camping and being in the outdoors has been a significant part of my life for the last eight years. As a child, I never enjoyed it much. Three years ago, my family along with four other families decided to take a trip to Glacier National Park. The sky-piercing mountains and the beautiful lakes urged me to explore the outdoors more. From hiking through the mountainous trails to driving up the mountains through the Going-to-the-Sun road, I finally began to realize the relief and soothing sense that nature had to offer. Despite the love I finally found in the outdoors, I was never the dedicated and…

“I don’t know if all Boy Scouts are gays, they could probably tie the knot in, like, fifty different ways.” Bo Burnham begins his song I’m Bo, Yo with those lyrics, and while it may be fun to make jokes about the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), their short shorts, wacky handshakes, and neckerchiefs all being prime targets, the issue of homosexuality in the organization has always been a serious one.…

When I was a kid I grew up shadowing my parents at different community events they were helping to organize. What ever they were doing, whether it be setting up for a banquet or planning the final touches of an event or taking part in an event there I was with my older sister always watching. As I got older I started to get asked to help, of course I started with the little task but somewhere along the line I was getting the big task, helping others complete their task and being an active member of similar groups my parents had belonged to. Reflecting on why I got involved I do not have a specific moment that lead me to where I am , it was just something I was taught and learned as I grew up to be who I am today.…

Starting off with the end of eighth grade year is when I realized how much my life would change after one decision. My small group of friends consisted of them being in band. I’ve always been a shy person when it comes to meeting new people which is why I never tried out. I remember seeing posters announcing to come try out for color guard which is a performing arts program during marching season in high school. I had a couple of friends who were convincing me to join since that would mean we would all be in band. My best decision was going to try out and making the team.…

Reasons joining the Army vary greatly amounts people. My reason is simply I wanted to say show gratitude to the US, and to protect its freedom due the fact that I do not want my daughter to have the same fate of Malala Yousafza on the afternoon of 9th October 2012. The latter was concluding factor in my decision. As for ROTC, being an officer will afford me to the greatest opportunities to make positive impact on others around me.…
