Of all of the characters in The Outsiders I relate the most to Johnny because he is sweet and quiet, but when it comes to my friends I would do anything for them. I think Johnny and I connect to him because we come off as nice and would not hurt a fly, but everyone has something or someone they would die or kill for and Johnny and I would both kill for our friends. I think Johnny is so content because he has a lot of things happened to him though. Like someone jumped him and his parents are really mean to him. I don't have that in my life, well not as bad and nothing to do with my family. But a lot of things have happened to make me so quiet and content, like Johnny. All and all I think that I am very much like Johnny.…

In addition, Johnny is a hero because he is brave. He ran into a burning church because he wanted to save the children in the church. As Johnny was dropping off the children at the church, he saw the church starting to crumble. When he saw that he shoved Ponyboy toward the window and yelled, “‘Get Out,’” (Hinton 93). This further demonstrates that he is brave trying to save the children in the church and how h e first thought about the children when he saw the church burning. You may think that Johnny is a hood because he killed Bob, but he did that to save Ponyboy. It was also self-defense as what Dally was saying, “‘Socs in the rumble and would testify that the socs were drunk and looking for a fight and you fought back in self-defense,’”…

With outstanding level of integrity, as well as rectitude despite a distressing home life, it would be justifiable to identify Johnny Cade in The Outsiders, as a hero. Although some may disagree with this statement by stating that Johnny could never be a hero simply because he killed Bob. However, we must remember the salient fact that when Ponyboy was being drowned in the park fountain by David, Johnny stabbed Bob on behalf of Ponyboy’s protection, despite the generally terrifying, and painful nature of an action that heinous. In addition, when the children were trapped in the burning church on Jay Mountain, Johnny ran to the rescue without hesitation, even if it meant putting his own life at risk for the benefit of others. Finally, and most importantly, when Johnny was dying in hospital, and did not have much time left before death, he did not try to feel sorry for himself, he instead said goodbye…

Background does not matter when you are a hero. In the book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, the author argues that heroism defines a person by their actions not by their background, history, or looks. The events at the church, the incidents that happened before the church and the aftermath all show the changes that happened over time that would eventually negate Ponyboy’s history and background and regard him as a hero. There are different points of heroism in the story and different forms of heroism in the story but for now we are going to look at the most important three, Cherry acting as a spy, Ponyboy rescuing the kids and what he was defined by before he was a hero.…

Johnny saves the kids in the burning church in Windrixville, on Jay Mountain. This shows that he is a good person because he is fixing his mistakes; he thought that he caused the church to burn by placing his cigarettes on the floor for the whole week. He is risking his life on saving the children. We know this because in the letter that Johnny gave to Ponyboy in the book ‘Gone with the Wind’ it had a note inside it from Johnny that he wrote before he had died in the hospital. Ponyboy received this book from the nurse. In a part of the note, it says: Listen, I don’t mind dying now. It’s worth it. It’s worth saving those kids. Their lives are worth more than mine, they have more to live for. Some of their parents came by to thank me and I know it was worth it. Tell Dally it’s worth it.…
