The first type of information system I am going to talk about is hardware which should be simple to use and I needs to be transparent for large businesses to use such as john Lewis. The management information system will be on a server which is run by john Lewis so they can access it and use the server. If you are a small business you can run your own server such as standalone which is different to large ones such as John Lewis.
Processing
This type of information system will be able to the data into useful information by processing. This will total up the number of things sold by john Lewis in a variable such as the product, the time it’s purchased, finally the location of the store.
Storage
The data will be stored in grave detail

If information is needed between more than one places then telecommunication is a best way to go when communicating effectively as they can between unique locations. The information will spread to those users who have authorised to do so but telecommunication must be safe and secured when giving information out but intranet is the best way to use telecommunication as it is John Lewis private network.
Software
Software can be used in many businesses such as John Lewis they will need computers and software is so important. They can easily access to any applications that they needed by having software must of cheaper management information they usually have less features and most of management information they use specialised software.
Data
Data will need to be processed in business for marketing purposes such as John Lewis. For example all information need to be processed such as product information or jobs details all that need to be processed in data information. Once it’s finished possessing the outputted data it will show the information of the product which will be outputted data. Every department in john Lewis will make data and other functions of the business will gained from external areas or sources.     Describing information systems is the best place to start. Business dictionary.com (2010) defines it as “Combination of hardware, software, infrastructure and trained personnel organized to facilitate control, coordination and decision making.” This encompasses a lot of areas. Let me explain it a little more.
