Johanna Tavaren Summary
Deep and personal with Hanna

As I soon as I saw Johanna, her face just seemed familiar from somewhere. Johanna’s long black hair, was even longer when we met. She looks at people with her big, dark eyes, hungrily waiting for their story (Johanna Tavarez, Reading, PA. Personal photograph by Esteyla Cuevas. 29 Jan, 2017). I believe we were starting 9th grade. Every time I saw Johanna, I tried to push my brain to remember where I had saw her before. As a first impression I noted the she was unbelievably friendly. Everyone seemed to be at attracted toward her direction. Johanna was a people charmer, still is. Eventually my brain grew tired, and unsuccessful of trying to figure where I met her before. I decided to go up to her, and ask. Turns out

Unlike some of us millennials who enjoy being antisocial, Johanna enjoys others company and conversing with people, and she breaks most of the stereotypes millennials are known for. Johanna Tavarez is driven because she pushes herself greatly through obstacles in her life and goes against the stereotypes. Johanna’s quote explains the millennial generation works hard when moved by a cause, unlike the media and older generations like to show. In “deep and personal with Hanna, “Johanna Tavarez states, “I love that we get what we fight for. I love the effort that is put in when we feel strongly about anything. We send clear, vibrant, creative messages to the world.” During our interview Johanna shows deep concern for how the millennials are viewed. She believes it is important to show not all millennials are lazy and negative people. There are plenty of hard working individuals, like herself in this generation. The quote stated above has a connection with the thesis of our article, because it explains why Johanna does not feel as a part of the millennial generation because she is hard working. Many like to perceive the millennials generation as the worst people to have walked the earth,

Millennials have come into a negative light in the eyes of many being blamed for problems in the world today. In Joel Stein’s article entitled The New Greatest Generation he believes they will instead of causing problems bring solutions to them and I agree with him. The millennials are a generation possessing much more resources and technology than any other generation before them by a long shot. The technological advances made from the 1980s to the early 2000 have opened a world of possibilities that millennials will and are taking advantage of to get further in life.…

From a neutral perspective, the author possesses a definitive purpose but elicits wild generalizations upon the entire millennial generation, ultimately detracting authenticity and credibility as the author’s voice leaks into the article. Tyler is clearly well-versed in the subject and openly expresses her opinions as fact throughout her work; she smartly refrains from speaking in the first person, but with the inclusion of her opinions, she might as well use “I” in every argument. She begins the article with the inclusion that millennials have underdeveloped brains, are hopelessly reliant upon technology, and possess a cloud of over-attached parents. She assumes that this particular generation will wreak negative impacts on the workforce as she braces employers for the impending intrusion. For example, she opens her argument with youths’ inferiority. “Older generations that couldn’t wait to proclaim their independence can’t comprehend this generation’s need for parental guidance and influence” . The choice of small rhetorical choices ultimately guides the reader…

On account of my own experiences (Yes, I know personal experience doesn’t trump truths) within the Millennial generation. This generation sings a song that is of a different tune than the one “The Newest Greatest Generation” suggests. When reflecting on where my peers are and are headed, I see a generation that is filled with persons of high character, creativity, and open mindedness. Not to say this isn’t a generation without flaws, as we have many, but unlike Stein, I wouldn’t hesitate to label this generation as altruistic, full of fervor, and philanthropy. As a reader it was difficult for me to believe the “truths” of this article, and easy for me to accept this as another case of social ageism, the “us vs them”…

Many have dubbed this generation of young adults as the “me” generation, a self-centered and egotistical group fixated only on their own successes and failures. I concede that this may be fitting; however, I also believe that this arrogance can be attributed to the popular belief that independence leads to success and, subsequently, that success leads to self fulfillment. This natural, almost automatic lifestyle, in which millennials disregard others and place themselves as the center of the universe, is what David Foster Wallace calls the “default setting.” (Wallace, 2015) He ensures us that it is a common way of living among many college graduates, though he also maintains that living in our default setting will only prevent us from leading fulfilling lives.…

In Renee Wilson’s article, “The Defence of the iGeneration” (2013), she discusses her belief of the iGeneration being the smartest generation yet. Through many anecdotes, Wilson reflects on her experiences teaching the iGeneration and how they are able to ignore negative criticism and still show their full potential. This article was originally published in This Magazine, which is a Canadian magazine that explores politics and pop culture. This Magazine works towards publishing articles on topics that usually do not go mainstream and are targeted towards a middle-aged and young adult audience. Therefore, Wilson has a dual audience and thus a dual goal as well.…

That only credible information for millennials are quotes given by well respected academics. According to Gary Stiteler, an Army recruiter interviewed by Joel Stein, “The generation that we enlisted when I first started recruiting was sort of do, do, do. This generation is think, think about before you do it” he says. “This generation is three to four steps ahead” (qtd. in Stein 32). After reviewing the article, one can easily realize the few examples of praising for the millennials. However, there is a surplus of praise for Generation X throughout the entire front page of the article that is front loaded with statistical data. Instead, Stein uses statistics as written, “58% more college students scored higher on a narcissism scale in 2009 than in 1982” (Stein 28). To inform the reader, that statement is used by Joel Stein from the National Institutes of Health. To clarify, Joel Stein is not feeding his audience any facts that praise the millennial generation for their hard work but only uses quotes from wellrespected academics which gives his article an unbalance of factual data. Also, the millennial generation at its youngest age is only eighteen, so there is still plenty of room for…

Today I read two articles that have impacted my thought of the millennials era, those two articles are The Outsiders: How Can Millennials Change Washington If They Hate It? by Ron Fournier and Millennials: The Greatest Generation or the Most Narcissistic? by Jean Twenge. In the first article they really explained that this generation, the people of today are the ones that they younger people are more service oriented than anyone ever was. This is a great thing, but whats the link? Nothing actually. These young adults are going out and helping their community just because they want to help out not because they want a job in the government or politics. In fact they don't see politics or the government actually helping their community. They are…

It was a casual August afternoon in Minneapolis, people walking the down the sidewalk, strangers passing by. We were visiting my old hometown. I was walking with Beth, and we were messing around. I used to have an inside joke with one of my friends from fifth grade, “Girl you need to chill.” It stuck once I moved. Anyway, Beth had just told me to chill, so, I walked into the nearest cold building. Which of course, ended up being a meat locker… 15 minutes later I was coming out and saw an all too familiar pair of square glasses. Before I could see her face, she turned away. Her bleached tip hair swung across her shoulders. The dark skin, the hair and glasses, it had to be Miracle Brown. This is the girl who was one of my best friends in sixth grade. She started heading down the street, so I told Beth to meet me back at our hotel.…

In verse four and five we are privy to John’s vision of thrones with individuals appointed authority to judge. These are the same individuals spoken of in chapter four verses four. They are representative of “the elders of Israel or the church or a combination of both (twelve scribes and twelve apostles” according to Hindson. In verse five we are enlightened to the first resurrection. This begins with the Resurrection of Christ and includes those that believed in Him prior to the rapture and those in Him at the time of the rapture. We can identify two individual events here. One is the resurrection and the fact that there will be two. The first will consist of the believers that carry the seal of the lamb and the second will be for those that denied him and are awaiting judgment. With this we can also identify two deaths one that is physical and one that is eternal. The fear that comes with a physical death should be (but often is not) overshadowed by an eternal death. Everyone dies to their physical body but here John is speaking of an eternal death. Where are you going to spend…

The ideal American Dream to the Millennials is less tangible than their predecessors. Instead of living for the future, their dream is really about living in the now and the ability to have more control over their day-to-day lives. Their reasons are based on what happened to their parents dreams, of having a home that is paid for, having a life free from financial worries when they retired. With the instability of the economy and the unemployment at its highest point ever, their parent’s dreams never came…

Jean Twenge’s book, Generation Me, focuses on the 21st century generation where the effects of Baby Boomers and Generation Me have changed our society. Jean Twenge, a psychology professor at San Diego University, has done numerous scholarly journals to explain the positive and negative characteristics of the Millennials in order for the society to understand the generation. In addition, she suggested simple solutions to explain how her readers can help the 21st century generation who believes in individual and narcissism. She was from the poverty stricken neighborhoods of Trenton and was really looking forward to coming to my school for our annual carnival we held. She had seen me try to draw a butterfly on a child’s face and came over, tapped my shoulder sweetly, and proceeded to show me an easier and beautiful way to draw a butterfly. That day she helped me draw many things I did not know of and in turn I showed her how to handcraft her own bracelet. Till this day I use her technique to help me achieve flawless looking butterflies and other drawings.…

This generation comprises children born between 1982 (some say 1980) and 1995 to the late baby boomers. These parents kept their children's lives busily structured with sports, music lessons, club meetings, youth group activities, and part-time jobs. In their spare time, young millennials spent many hours on the computer, often the Internet, interacting with peers, doing school work, playing games, shopping, and otherwise entertaining themselves. Unless they attended private or college-town schools, they received a weaker K-12 education than previous generations. Still, they flooded into colleges and universities starting around 2000. Their combined family and school experience, along with their heavy mass media exposure, made…
