“Simon says touch your ears. Simon says pick up your area. Simon says sit quietly at the table.” “ Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall and all the king’s horsemen and all the king’s knights put Humpty Dumpty back together again.” As children we learn these nursery rhymes and games at a very young age. Well with this job you get to be the one teaching these games and nursery rhymes that stuck in your head from childhood. Job shadowing at Pals Preschool was very fun and eye opening. This paper will include the details of the day I job shadowed, how this job will change in the future, my thoughts on this job, and how someone can prepare to go into this field of work. For my job shadow I was able to go to Pal’s Preschool. I spent my day with many different women some being Mrs. Miles the director of the school and the teachers of all ages from infants to kindergarteners. I first started in the 2-3 year olds and as each child came in the teachers greeted them and their parents then they each had their own closet space to hang up their coats and bookbags. Some skills I’ve learned in Highschool that would help with this career would be organization because with younger children there has to be a lot of structure and timeliness, without it everything would be chaotic. Since I was nine I have watched children whether it was my three little cousins, or more recently my cousins baby, and my own nephew. Having these children in my life has helped me be able to take care of certain situations such as a child being sick, scared, hurt, in a bad mood, and a lot of other situations. Also it has made me gain a lot patients and learn new ways to avoid problems that could possibly occur with all

When the little girl in my care was due to start preschool I arranged to stay with her for the first few times until she had got to know the place and all teachers . This helped her settle a lot quicker and caused less stress and anxiety to the family. At home also I was planning activities to help such as playing schools, with each of us taking turns to be the teacher. I encouraged her to be independent in going to the toilet and seeing to her own needs and we practiced putting her coat on by herself, all things to help with the transition. All the time I was explaining what is going to happen and what it might mean to her. To support our play and this important change in her life I also used puppets , painting and stories which can all help children to understand and come to terms with changes and transitions in their lives. And we as a adults can help by listening to them , and by being honest and…

I provide a positive relationship with the child through daily routines and interactions allowing growth in in their development of self and others. Each morning I ensure that I greet each child and parent when they arrive. In greeting the child I will always address the child by his/her name and encourage the other children to say good morning. I feel this gives the child and parent a sense of trust and security for a safe and secure environment and this acknowledgment makes the child feel special and welcome in the class. In the mornings I also have open centers where the children can go around and greet the other student and to move and work at their own pace. I also find some way to praise the class and each child daily. I provide opportunities for the children to always feel successful and proud of themselves. All children have different rates of development and different personalities. Knowing this can help us be patient. I show children that I really care about them by accepting each child as an individual. I help children with developing social skills, Self- control, problem-solving skills, and the ability to act independently.…

I recently left a position at a small Early Childhood Education center in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The school consisted of children ranging in age of 6 weeks to 6 years. I worked there for eleven years in a variety of age groups. Most of my experience was in Preschool, with children who were three and four years old. The school was located in Point Park University located in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, in one of the University’s dorm buildings and took up two floors. Each classroom was between three and four dorm rooms combined in size. The rooms were long and narrow with partial walls knocked down and converted into doorways between the rooms. Because of the classrooms being converted from individual dorm rooms to single classrooms, there were many blind spots in the room. There for, each classroom had at least two teachers spread out among the room to be able to see every child and what they were doing at all times. It was very rare that there were only two teachers per class. Many times, the classroom had two teachers, and students from the university enrolled in a work study program helping to work with fifteen to twenty students.…

Some of these services may include visits to a child’s home or could even have links to training or employment opportunities for families with children under five. In my work setting we help to support working parents by extending the day by combining early education and childcare e.g. breakfast clubs, after school clubs. By offering these clubs different agencies can work together for the benefit of each child.…

Eileen Kennedy-Moore once wrote, “The path of development is a journey of discovery that is clear only in retrospect, and it’s rarely a straight line.” Although the development to which she is reffering may not be specific, the complexity and sometimes unpredicable nature of children may definitely be summarized by this short quote. As humans, we begin as tiny beings with barely any ability, but, as we grow, we develop into creatures of play and imagination, of right and wrong decisions, and of motivation for the tasks we face in our day-to-day lives. As an Early Childhood Education student, I often have the opportunity to volunteer and to observe a variety of organzations, classrooms, and programs. For this particular class, I was able to analyze a classroom-like environment at the YMCA for children of all ages, and I compared these observations with the appropraite topics of this course.…
