Job Opportunities
There is only one opportunity that I would be interested in as a newly hospitality graduate. It would be in the area of event planning and catering. As a new graduate with no experience I feel that it would be best for me to start as an event planning assistant to a wedding caterer and learn the ropes from an already successful professional. I could also find me a job in the hospitality department of an events center for a year or two just to gain the experience. Event Planning and catering interest me because it gives me the chance to make someone’s dreams come true. I enjoy turning dreams in to a reality. According to "Event Planner Job
Description" (2014), event planners are not just responsible parties but they also have to coordinating meetings, conventions and special events, such as weddings and fundraisers. Event planning is often considered a glamorous and exciting occupation, but the event planner job can also be challenging. And I love a challenge. An event planner’s job is to coordinate gatherings of groups of people to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience. I would enjoy having my own business in event planning. I am a bit exhausted for working for others so to have my own business in event planning will be a fresh new eye opening experience. I must admit it will be tuff because you cannot please everyone but event planning is a very rewarding field.

We cater many types of parties anywhere between birthdays, baby showers, business lunches, weddings, special dinners and Christmas parties. Our most common catering event would be our dinner menu option. During the time of my internship I had worked during the month of December, which is one of our top months for catering. I learned how to cook all of our most ordered entrée which was herb crusted sirloin, rosemary chicken, honey Dijon glazed Cornish hens, and smoke pork loin. Besides cooking the main entrée I learned how to put together salad and soup bars, and learned how to cook all of our sides. Also I would bake desserts, one of our best desserts would be our cheesecake or our red velvet…

The very first task before any business event is making a good plan which should include very clear event objectives and expectations. The plan should also include pre-event activities and tasks as well as such details like who is going to take care of these tasks. Depending on the size of the event, striking a planning committee may be required so actually the very first task would be choosing a group. The next tasks would be choosing possible dates, identifying participants and speakers, setting the budget for the event and writing a draft agenda. The tasks which usually follow are getting quotes from several venues including room/hotel room rental rates, audio visual and catering costs and presenting them to the committee – making a decision, booking external speakers and presenters, sending e-mails with information about date, time and place of the event to participants, creating a detailed event plan, finalizing the agenda and the list of participants, booking travel and accommodation for participants, finalizing audio visual and catering, printing name tags, lists, hand-outs and speaker’s notes and finally finalizing the room layout.…
