Jio Reliance Case Study
Jio, the telecom leg of Reliance Industries Limited is a Mumbai-based provider of 4G internet, mobile telephony, broadband services, and digital services in India. On September 5, 2016, Jio commercially launched its 4G services.
WHAT’S AIRTEL? Bharti Airtel Limited is an Indian global telecommunications services company based in New Delhi, India that provides GSM, 3G and 4G LTE mobile services, fixed line broadband and voice services depending upon the country of operation. It is the largest mobile network operator in India.

Jio claims the current number of interconnect points are inadequate, and the company is seeing a call failure right higher than 65 per cent. Jio claims it has resulted in 1.6 crore call failures per day on calls between Reliance Jio and the networks of Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea.
This issue started the rift between Reliance and Airtel, it being the largest service provider in India.
By the time Mukesh Ambani introduced his company’s bold telecom and 4G venture at RIL’s 39th Annual General Meeting (AGM), the AGM was met with stunned silence at Reliance’s biggest rival Airtel’s HQ in New Delhi. This is not the first time that Reliance had stunned their rivalry companies; this bloodbath has its roots from early 2000s by reducing the call rates which made mobile phones affordable to Indians. Again in 2014, they came up with a merger along with Facebook through internet.org under the Digital India campaign where users were offered free internet access with some restrictions in the tariff for certain sites which was opposed by other internet users/companies.
