For the last year the President of China, Xi Jinping, has been utilizing his political voice more than ever before. Attending multiple summits including the World Economic Forum, and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, he has expressed his world-wide goals of multilateralism and forward moving globalization - doing so under the context of trying to encourage worldwide cooperation. At the World Economic Forum, he painted a picture of “sharing, openness, effectiveness and sustainability.” Doing so for the support of the other nations present, attempting to create a sense of collectivism among nations, so that globalization can keep progressing. He made the promise that America would come first if he became president - he would reduce the amount of resources used to support other nations, build a wall to protect American citizens from anybody foreign, and “make America great again.” By promising this, President Trump was promising to undo all of the traditional things America once stood for. Rule of law, individual rights and freedoms, and economic equality will all suffer from his radical changes to the policies in America. Trump is changing the united State’s foreign policies, just like I believe President Jinping is trying to do. The difference is that President Trump has always been honest and open about his political and economic intentions, whereas I believe that Jinping is deceiving the world with his platform of peace and unity. I do not believe that there are many similarities between the two presidents, but they are both trying to change the way their nation interacts with the world. Because of this I cannot help but connect the two. Even though the situations are very different - Trump being elected into office with change in the minds of the voters, Jinping possibly deceiving the world with the interests of the citizens of China in mind. I believe that the similarities are scarce, but because President Jinping is using his platform of unity to appeal to the world at a point in time where many people think that world’s economic system is hanging in the balance.
