Jimmy Butler Thesis Statement
I will be writing about Jimmy Butler a professional basketball player who turned from being homeless to an NBA All-Star. Born Jimmy Butler III on September 14, 1989. In Houston, Texas. Butlers father stepped away from the family while he was still an infant. Meaning Jimmy would grow up with no father to give him well needed talks about the understanding of life. At the young age of 13 Butler's mother forced him out of the house. As remembered by Butler in a 2011 interview, she said to him, “ I don't like the view of you. You gotta leave.” Jimmy then remembers thinking,”Where am I gonna go to stay and sleep?” Jimmy a thirteen year old now having to fend for himself, bounced from home to home. Friends house to friend's house.

Well it all started February 17, 1963 when Michael Jordan was born. I’m here to tell you about good, the bad, and the ugly about Michaels journey to fame and fortune.--> Michael was born into an average family. His dad, James Jordan, was a supervisor at general electric while his mom, Deloris Jordan, worked in a bank. In his early childhood years, the Jordan’s moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. “The Book of Basketball: The NBA According to the Sports Guy” by Bill Simmons, was a book only the Sports Guy could write. Save a few hundred pages for Simmons to inform the readers on how he became the basketball and Celtics fan he is today (hint: it was his dad choosing between a motorcycle and season tickets to the Celtics), why as a child he called himself Jabaal Abdul-Simmons, footnotes galore, his hatred for Isiah Thomas and Wilt Chamberlain, and many of the greatest “What-if’s” in basketball history. Other than that, Bill Simmons uses this behemoth of a book to indulge on his version of “The Secret” of basketball, winning championships, and gives his take on how the NBA Hall of Fame should be constructed. In a pyramid style ranking with five levels Bill Simmons has who he thinks should be where, as of 2009, and each level getting smaller and smaller due to the higher standard. It all ends with the 12 best of all time, sitting atop the pyramid like kings with Michael Jordan number one. Again there was no one other than Simmons to write this book. “You could dress me red, drop in into a Crips neighborhood, tell me that I have 12 minutes to start a high-caliber NBA conversation before somebody puts a cap in my ass...and I would…

Florida Studio Theatre’s production of Butler by Richard Strand is witty, full of word play, and all too relevant. As a country embroiled in conversation around race, immigration, identity, and at the core of it all who has the right to humanity, this question is posed to us once again as with this play. Butler embodies both the past and present while presenting a unique opportunity to learn from it and change our future.…

Ben Wilson was a nationally ranked number one for basketball. He had a relentless drive to be the best or be better than the next. As his neighbor, Common says, “Ben was chosen”. Even though he was tremendously talented and basketball was his ticket out, the streets of South Chicago were viciously being taking over by gangs. He didn’t let that stop his shine or goals. By Ben’s junior year in high school he became Simeon’s main attraction but he didn’t allow the fame to take him out of his character. He stayed focus and kept his head in the books. As he was fighting the battle on the court, the battle outside of the court became more critical in the streets. The drug war and gang affiliation increased rapidly and soon enough a gang called the Disciples took over his neighborhood. As Ben entered into his senior year on a verge of winning another state championship and at the peak of his high school career, it would soon come to a deadly end.…
