Jim Nightshade Analysis
Another tone that we see throughout the story that relates to Jim Nightshade is terror. This is seen when it says “Me, though Jim” (Bradbury216), ““I mean… do they… buy souls?”” (203), and ““You here Jim…?”” (217) when they are at the library with Will’s dad, Charles Halloway. This creates terror, because the boys are hiding in the library because they don’t know where Mr. Dark is. Mr. Dark is looking for them to take the boys to the carnival. Ray Bradbury creates terror to show how afraid the boys are of Mr. Dark, and the things that the carnival does to acquire souls.

Throughout the majority of the plot the protagonist tries to lead his life as typical as possible, eventually however, the story reaches its climax when his wife’s infidelity is exposed and the ceiling collides with the earth, forcing the characters to deal with their mistakes and tragedy.…

In a perceptive analysis of Harry Potter, Melody Briggs and Richard S. Briggs offer an explanation of good versus evil being absolutely morally opposite (Briggs 33). This is entirely true to the core of The Graveyard Book. From the beginning of the novel the man Jack is seen as dark and evil, even the illustration on the first two pages is entirely black except for the knife visible in his had (Gaiman 1). While the novel waivers in between, it becomes clear that story will culminate with good and evil squaring off. This central theme correlates strongly with other fantasy such as the combat that Pierce addresses (Pierce 181). This enables the reader to anticipate the ending, and have some stake in the fight that is inevitably going to…

Our motivations are what get us up in the morning and get us through the day. They are also more long term in that our specific motivators may determine the direction in which we take our lives and what we decide to do with our time. It can often be difficult to identify these motivators in ourselves. One way to see these motivators is to compare and contrast oneself to others. In Liz Murray’s memoir Breaking Night, she describes her hard and challenging life up until the moment that she was accepted into Harvard University. Although Liz’s life is quite different than mine, some aspects of ourselves and our motivations are the same, but of course there are also differences between them as well.…
