Jim Crow Monologues
Hi my names Mae and I am a black that wants freedom. It was back in the 19th century the Jim Crow Era the worst time ever for me at least. We the blacks had no rights well not a lot at least and I didn’t know why. When we walked the streets white people would give us looks. Like mean looks this didn’t bother me much not as much as the fact that they would beat us if we were bad or even if they didn’t like what we did. But sometimes they would hang our kind. Let me tell you something that was not a pretty sight to see. Why are we treated so badly? Aren’t we the same? Well on another note we have a major issue we don’t have many rights. Like our bathrooms are separated from whites so isn’t our cups and fountains. It’s bad it’s like we are a virus to them. Also I see some people when a white women is on the sidewalk they have to …show more content…
“WE WON’T GIVE UP” screamed Martin “WE WANT OUR RIGHTS AND OUR FREEDOM Then again the others came out and started throwing things but this time some of them came after us and started beating on us like we are some kind of punching bag but we continued on our journey trying to make a change in life to get more out of this world than abuse. But again the police officers showed up and told us to go back so we did so. But next time….next time we will not bow to the petty fools we will not back down we will continue we will fight with all our might and we will make a change no matter what. “GUYS TOMORROW WE FIGHT DON’T BACK DOWN WE SHALL FIGHT TO THE DEATH IF YOU DON’T WANT TO GET KILLED OR HURT LEAVE NOW” At least two or three left “ We will win we will have out freedom no matter what so go home get ready and let’s take what’s ours” with that said I have dismissed them to go home.

Black oppression dates back to the birth of the United States. For almost two hundred years Africans were kidnapped from their villages and directly imported to the New World where they would be sold into slavery and remain there for years to come (King). In slavery they would experience “the abuses associated with bondage, including arduous labor, corporal punishment, sexual exploitation, and family separations” (King). Even after slavery was abolished, black “parents taught their children how to work satisfactorily, handle injustices, and pay deference to whites while maintaining their self-respect” (King). From one generation to another, their children and…

An eight-year-old African American boy sat on the floor of his church. His mother and father were talking quietly in the corner. He only heard pieces of the conversation. Things like “abolitionist” and “segregation” were repeated often. Many questions ran through his head. Questions like ‘Why do the whites have separate churches?’ And ‘Why is my dad not allowed to practice medicine?’ There were 221,000 free blacks in the sixteen Northern states in 1860. That is 4.9% of the African American population. They were called “free”, but did they really have liberty? Free people act as they wish and are unimpeded by others telling them what to do. Based on the political, social and economic rights of blacks in the North, we can conclude that they were not very free in comparison to the whites around them.…

There has been much time that has passed since slaves were brought into this country. These people were brought over on ships and transported in conditions than were less than humane. The torture and pain endured was unimaginable. Although many years have passed since the Middle Passage, the plight of the negro is still futile and our people are suffering at the hands of systems that are plagued with inequality as well as inferior systems that prevent our people from progression. Negroes have had a significant measure of difficulty in breaking free from the slave mentality and are casualties of a society made to view them as a commodity rather than a citizen.…

This week’s readings discussed a concept called “The New Jim Crow” which is about how black people and Latino's are most likely to get more prison time than their counter-parts even when the crime committed is the same. The author goes on to talk about how people who are black and brown get stopped more and searched than any other race. Personally, I think the reason why people who are black and brown are most likely to be stopped and searched is because , in most cases they cannot afford a good lawyer who will stand up for their rights , There are public defenders but they have lot of cases to deal with and paper work with that being said if they can get someone to admit to the crime and do the time and get a shorter sentences they're work…

Decades upon decades of inhumane and demoralizing treatment. Countless lives lost, and thousands of families split apart. Worked endlessly for hours, and even days on end. Deprived of food, water, and shelter. Spat on. Whipped. Beaten until chunks of skin were left hanging almost by a thread, with blood covering backs and the grass below. Beautiful human faces scarred and bruised. Slavery was evil, just as racism is to this very day. Even after the emancipation of African American slaves, white men in the south still continue to treat them as poorly and abusively as a stray dog. These emancipated slaves and their families deserve a fighting chance to make a living as free black men. They are no longer slaves, they are now the equals to white men. Former southern slave owners have no right to claim this land, after the way that they hurt all of these African Americans.…

He considered everything that had happened in the last few minutes. She acknowledged the queen's viscous humor and intention to keep things as they are. Yet he didn't believe that really mattered to her. Her stated belief that pain didn't matter was a clear expression that and more of her numbness to the horrors she'd been exposed to. He'd told her about his friend and she'd asked the boy's name. His breath caught. He looked at her and said, “Though I have not said his name aloud in all these years in memorium of our friendship. I think he'd understand this situation and approve. His name was Marco and he was nine. He was just a boy from the village and so my grandfather saw only a commoner. I've long since come to scorn that mentality though. For years after I reach my majority I looked for him and never found him. Though with the slave trade being what it is, I suppose that's to be expected.…

Mass amounts of people must take up arms to defend what they believe, taking out threats to their ideology, even if those threats are peers, friends, and neighbors. It is easy to view this solution with a somber tone, but I encourage those who will to look beyond the fighting, and see America’s future as it should be, and imperfect utopia glistening on the hill. Now, realize the only way down that path is to eliminate competition.…

Are we free or are we limited, men of color often wondered in the late 1860s. Twenty years earlier they were given rights to vote and have all equal opportunities as the white men. Then they were struck with laws that stood in the way of allowing them act as freemen. Those laws were called “Jim Crow” laws, and they were designed to stop desegregation amongst black and white men. There are many stories to tell about them, and how they degraded black men at that time. They allowed the use of any type of tactic to insult black men. Times really have not changed so much with the law and people of the United States often wonder if they cannot trust the people who are suppose to…
