Jewish Internship Report
Candidly, there are two main reasons why I am interested in this internship: because it will develop not only my own leadership skills, but even more importantly the Jewish community here in Canada. For me, this is personal – and the natural continuation for my work in Hillel as a student exec, in CIJA as a #Project972 intern, and in the AEPI Nu Kappa Chapter as a founding brother and Jewish chair. It is not a simple task to explain in words how deeply I have been accepted by the Ottawa Jewish community. Neither is this debt easy to quantify. From strangers, I was invited to Seders, Shabbat services, and ceremonies – even a bris. I learnt my alef bet and broke my first challah. Ottawa became as much as a second home as an avenue to forge my own – and distinctly Jewish – identity. What Judaism builds for communities, both overseas in Israel and here in Ottawa, is this sense of a deeper community. My own bar mitzvah was held in Ben Gurion Airport because a rabbi sitting beside me asked if I were a Jew, and when I responded yes, he asked for my age. “Thirteen,” I said. He asked me if I had my bar mitzvah yet. When he heard me say no, he asked me if I wanted to have it there and now – although, because this is Judaism, he first asked my mother. What followed was us two, in the busiest …show more content…
However, in my perspective, there is too often a temptation to view leadership as exclusively a couple or a handful of skills. That’s a mistake. I’m looking to mature as a leader by more than a single skill – because leadership has always been more than the sum of its parts. What a leader should be able to do is to take initiative, adapt, navigate ambiguity, display ingenuity, think outside the box, plan inside it, take orders, give orders, solve problems, find questions, easily handle complexity, work in a team, work independently, lead. “Specialization,” Robert Heinlein said, “is for

Prior to partaking in leadership 1, there were some traits I possessed and believed they were fit for a good leader but I soon came to understand that being a good leader is not all about the qualities I possessed or about doing things to please myself, but rather bringing out the best in others. “Our strength grows out of our weaknesses.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson. I have realized that I possess some weaknesses but the best thing is to attack these limitations and turn them into strength. I was not always…

There are five leadership skills that are essential to acquire as a leader. These skills can help overcome complicated problems and issues that a leader could face on a daily basis. Skills such as collaboration rather than heroics and building and mending relationships; these can help with learning different ways to approach others in the organization as well as engage and motivate. Choosing the way to manage between being heroic and being engaging will determine what type of a leader one is going to grow into. Change also involves relationships, and maintaining a good relationship with others in the workplace is not an easy task. However, the task becomes easier when one tries to learn about what others enjoy, what they strive in, and by taking this information and analyzing it, the leader can find ways to build the relationship and fuel the relationship, come up with new ideas for building relationships, etc.…

I have learned that leadership is much more than being able to make business decisions and having a group of people under one’s supervision. Leadership is a multifaceted position that encompasses that an individual who is or wants to be a leader must have self-confidence, embrace adversity, have a support system and trusting one’s decisions. These underlying characteristics to possess leadership are some that I have now and some that I am constantly working on to gain and…

One extracurricular activity that is related to my interest in this internship is my experience at the Jewish Museum. I've worked with mainly children from all ages and backgrounds. I've done session in "Picture This!" where we would bring the visitors to the galleries and create art inspired by our surrounding. I've also done "Storybooks and Arts" where I would read a children's book to the audience and make artworks inspired by the reading. One of my favorite sessions that I've done is "Archaeological Dig" where the children are able to discover treasures from our stimulated dig and learn about the history.…

When I visited my first Jewish synagogue, I expected it to be very different. My previous experience with religious ceremonies was limited to a few visits to Baptist churches. The most surprising thing for me at this one was, oddly enough, its similarity to Christian services and rituals. I went into the religious visit expecting an enormous difference in the customs and perhaps even in the attitudes of the people attending the service. What I found instead was a religious ceremony very reminiscent of the Christian ones I’ve been to before.…

Initially I concluded the facilities outreach programs it had established within the community marvelously interesting. When I visited to do the preliminary research about the synagogue I was pleasantly greeted and immediately asked if I needed any sort of assistance. My first thought was; this is odd a religious place asking if I needed help in other areas of my life besides spiritual. I accepted the offer and asked for a quick interview. As the conversation continued I asked about why these programs were put into place, and was given the answer of it being a part of their religion. According to the Chabad branch of Judaism helping the community was part of the Chabad philosophy (understanding, knowledge, and wisdom). To be exact these programs provide help and understanding to those in need. These programs also have satisfied their moral hunger to do…

The passion for education in several different areas is what sets this type of leadership strength apart from most. For the Learner, being left without the knowledge of a situation can be quite frustrating as this individual thrives on learning something new or gaining new skills in the current specialization field. Analyzing a topic or a situation is a great job for the learner as this individual will keep researching until the answer is found (Rath & Conchie, 2008).…

To begin with, it all started on 5/11/2012, when I got selected for my internship at L&T. Considering the fact that not even half of the batch was selected by this time, this was a great achievement. I was loathed with congratulations of my friends and batch mates even before I had myself seen the result. What was even better, that six students of my section were selected for internship there. I felt that this would be great fun. Six of us together (we were always considered to be the most freaking and fun loving section at our institute) in an organization which of great fame, perhaps I couldn’t have asked for a better internship.…
