Jeremy Kagan's Conspiracy
“If you’re really in tune you never really miss anything” said Jeremy Kagan. The director, writer, and film producer spoke at Indiana University Cinema yesterday. Jeremy is one of more than fifteen-thousand members of the Directors Guild of America which is nationally acclaimed. He stated he is on a mission not only to entertain but to shift social awareness as well. After the introduction of Jeremy Kagan the audience had the opportunity to view a short clip of his movie Conspiracy: The Trial of the Chicago 8. From the beginning of the clip the audience witnesses how Jeremy relives the trail of the 1698 Democratic Convention. A black panther struggles to announce he wants to defend himself in court while being subdued and hand cuffed seated to a chair. Jeremy didn’t …show more content…
Jeremy informs the audience that casting is a very important part of him directing a film before stating that having conversations with the actors and interviewing them really allows him to pick at their brains, finding out who they really are. Shirley Vaughan, a Bloomington screenwriter, thought it was very informative and she really liked how Jeremy tries to influence behavior with his film. Another person, who didn’t want their identity mentioned, thought it was interesting how Jeremy’s film with evident drama is more influential than his film with a direct informative indication. After the speech Jeremy had a Q&A and we got his views on society and his upcoming film Shot. “We live in a violent culture” Jeremy says. He continues to say that this is because of the easy access of guns. With his feature film Shot, Jeremy plans on focusing on gun violence and wants to again, influence his audience to make a change. He later stated the film should be aired sometime next

One thing the director did that really stood out to me was where he set the theme. Along the journey McCandless goes to a handful of places. Instead of filming in one place, the director traveled all over the US and filmed everywhere McCandless went.…

First, the interviews in the documentary were well conducted. The interviews were taken of both blacks and whites, as the plaintiff in the court case was black and the defendants were white. Taking two different perspectives on the issue showed the facts and how each side felt and reacted to the crime. These interviews were filmed in many different places, including the Byrd family house (defendant), and the house of one of the suspect’s family, outside of the courthouse where the trial would be held, and various other locations around the town of Jasper. The different locations of the interviews gave different emotions to the story to give opposing viewpoints. The well-conducted interviews was a large reason why the documentary was a quality project.…

"Jeremy" is based on two different true stories. The song takes its main inspiration from a newspaper article about a 15-year-old boy named Jeremy Wade Delle, born February 10, 1975, from Richardson, Texas who shot himself in front of his English class at Richardson High School on the morning of January 8, 1991 at about 9:45 am. In a 2009 interview, Vedder said that he felt "the need to take that small article and make something of it—to give that action, to give it reaction, to give it more importance."…

I liked how Greg was talking to the audience. Normally, movies are like watching someone else’s life. In this movie, Greg was talking the audience through his life, as if they were there. I also enjoyed how the movie was shown as a documentary, but not about history. The movie was separated into “parts,” based on the way Greg viewed his life experiences. This is an excellent aspect of the film because it was entertaining to see how Greg viewed things in his eyes, rather than watch a movie about somebody’s life.…

I never thought that I would have been able to understand the message of the Emmett Till with one man acting out the play. I was wrong it actually felt like there was a full cast. This leads onto the subject concerning the acting. Being at times monotonous and bland, it lacks the emotion and punch that the book delivered. However, I remarked that the producers added music that gives an effect of mystery and suspense (a bit repetitive). This helps bring out the suspense.…

This is the debut film from the American Film Company- a production company who has made it their goal to produce history based films with a high level of accuracy, yet still be accessible. The story here concerns the trial of Mary E. Surratt, the lone female accused of being a conspirator in the plot to assassinate Abraham Lincoln. This film had the pedigree to be a Best Picture contender - interesting, true, and rarely told story; brilliant ensemble cast; insane attention to detail, down to the buttons on the Union soldiers' jackets and the number of loops on the nooses. There was something that just kept it from coming together, though.…

In film making, the actor is the face of the film. Acting is not just pretending to be someone else; it is becoming the character thereby creating the magic of effective acting. Noticeable actors are usually our way into a movie. (Goodykoontz, & Jacobs 2011).…

After rewatching this film I realized how each moment helps me connect to another emotion. This is a story about young artist trying to make it in New York and this is something that I relate to. I might not have the extreme problems they have there is still some comfort in the friendship and love that they have in the big city that gives me hope. This is an overly successful Broadway show that I might not have gotten the chance to see if it wasn’t for the adaptation. This makes me very grateful for it. Larson’s story opens a different side of the theatre world. This is a side of this world that I would love to see in a live…
