* Sun provides seasons and the years, governs everything in visible world, cause of all things he used to see…
Both Stoker’s Dracula and Mernau’s Nosferatu have been used to create a new text, with its own concerns, the new text being shadow of the vampire, and its concerns being that it needs to appeal to a postmodern audience. Shadow of the vampire is a new text representing new elements that resonate with a contemporary, post modern audience. Various elements of the gothic mode for example vampirism, immortality, sexuality, and the shadow motif have been appropriated, also Intertextuality is created through the use of real Nosferatu footage, and re-enactments of Nosferatu in order to appeal to a postmodern audience.…
In Albert Camus’ “The Stranger” the “story of an ordinary man who gets drawn into a senseless murder” is told. Taking place in Algeria this man, Meursault, is constantly in a climate of extreme warmth, as are all the inhabitants therein. The sun, the source of light and the cause of this warmth, is thus a vital and normal part of his life. It brings warmth and comfort yet it can also cause pain and sickness. Throughout most of his life Meursault has lived with the conflicting forces of the sun and light, as a friend and foe. However in Chapter 6 these forces become unbalanced and the sun becomes an aggressor causing Meurault physical pain and jolting him into violent action.…
In order to survive humans have to grow crops, gather food, and build shelters and fire. In our economy we work to support ourselves, and in order to work we have to have jobs. So what happens when they start taking jobs away? In America, unemployment rates have gone up in the past decade. Businesses are growing and new stores are opening, which should mean more jobs. However, America’s employment rate in 2007 was only 38 percent. Shadow work is the reason employers do not have to hire as many people as they did in the past (862).…
This poem was created from Anne’s inspiration from Vincent Van Gogh’s famous painting Starry Night. It begins with a quote from a letter written by Van Gogh, which says that he has a deep need for religion, and that it is when he feels this need that he goes out and paints the stars. This is very profound because it is about man’s need for something everlasting and holy. Even though Van Gogh didn’t want religion in his life, he still had a need for the holy. By creating the painting of the stars, Van Gogh was, in effect, memorializing the beauty of the world. He was acknowledging the incomparable power of beauty that the world holds. Though he may not actually feel the presence of the Divine, a painter understands eternity, and he understands…
The imagery regarding the sun contrasts its vitality and warmth with its ultimate inability to wake one who has died. In the first stanza the sun is personified and described as "kind" and "old", its warmth ancient and affirming. The speaker is quiet and gently hopeful when he asks that the body be moved into the sun. Many of Owen's poems focus on the bond between man and Nature, and here Nature seems like it could revive the speaker's friend.…
* The sun seems like an oppressive leader ‘punishing sun’ inflicting pain on all beneath it, also using personification.…
SHE WALKS IN BEAUTY by: George Gordon (Lord) Byron (1788-1824) sHE walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that's best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes: Thus mellow'd to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies.…
“Let there be dark” is an article published by the Los Angeles TImes by Paul Bogard that speaks about the hazards of lighting up night skies. Bogard worries “we are rapidly losing nights natural darkness” and argues that not only does lack of natural darkness affects our worlds pollution but also our country’s economy as we waste “energy” and “dollar”. We are also slowly losing the capability of producing melatonin a key hormone in providing a healthy body. WIth the use of the three rhetorical figures, pathos, logos and ethos; Bogard was able to state to regular home owners and dwellers that we read to change our habits towards the nightś darkness and learn to embrace the beauty and uniqueness of it.…
I ponder at this painting, and wonder what thoughts pop in the minds of those whose eyes before mine have already fallen upon this golden wonder. It seems like such a small and quiet village, where the trees, so dark and gloomy as they are at dusk, grow ascending from the ground and are never ending structures. Behind the eyes of the painter was the thought of an ever-changing starlit sky in France, comparing dark with light and how it’s effects were so important to how life can look in one of the many perspectives.…
She sees clouds engulf the stars, blocking her view. The voice of the poet reassures her that one, the stars will return, and two, a force exists that is even more eternal than the stars.…
The sun is noted to be a sign of a beautiful day. Some research states that warm weather has a positive and encouraging effect to mental health. Researchers also believe that with new environments that are provided when people take trips and vacations during warm weather comes an atmosphere which creates a wonderful aura and provide relaxation time. People who spend time outside in the sunshine are likely to find themselves measurably happier, the optimal dose of sunshine is one-half hour per day (Aaronson 27). The brightness of the sun makes people feel energetic and ready to accomplish things. Warm, pleasant, and fair weather makes people smile and want to go outside and have fun. “Being outside in pleasant weather really offers a way to reset your mind set” (qtd. in Keller). Moods generally rise with temperatures, but only in the spring, because people savor the sun after months of deprivation in the winter (Aaronson 27).…
The poem also includes the quote “ A substance like the shadow of the sun” which contains redundancy, whereas the sun has no shadow. A quote such as this one is confusing, yet deep in the sense that the sun cannot have a shadow; Compared to Raleigh’s feeling that he cannot find true love. The line being redundant also has its meaning. It means that false love is unneeded and should cancel itself out.…
As the moon beams light over the dark night, my mother gives light to my life. So, the moon is so important to a beautiful night and so also my mother to my life. I also would like to compare her un rival love with the shining moon over the darkness of the night. She is the light, the guide and the guardian to me.…
As I placed my heavy backpack on the old bench, I feel tiredness coming up to me, as well as the sadness, because I have to spend in the park for an hour just to write some descriptive essay. So I grabbed my pencil and notebook and started to look around, the park was lonely. The sunset was not spectacular that day. The vivid ruby and tangerine streaks that often caressed the blue brow of the sky were sleeping, There are some days when the sunlight seems to dance, to weave and frolic with tongues of fire between the blades of grass. the yellow light was sickly. It diffused softly through the gray curtains with a shrouded light that just failed to illuminate. High up in the treetops, the leaves swayed, but on the ground, the grass was silent, limp and unmoving. There was me, sitting on the bench, writing this essay. It was a quiet Tuesday late afternoon and not many people appears, I sat there alone on the ancient bench, the cold wind blew at me, and down to my spine. As I looked up In the sky, it is transformed into a colorful horizon; filled with endless streams of orange and red.…
