Jamilah Decosta Research Paper

There are many people such as Jamilah Decosta who have been discriminated because of their race. Jamilah Decosta, an African American woman, attempted to obtain a job at a bakery in New York as a counter girl. She was denied the job because the co-owner believed Jamilah would scare away customers because her skin color. She then notified the Human Rights Commision. In the three years the bakery had been in buisness they discovered that not a single African American or man has worked the counter. As a result, the Human Rights Commision required the bakery to pay $25,000 due to a discrimination penalty. $10,000 of it was given to Jamilah.
