When dribbling the ball the player can only put one hand at a time on the ball, if a player places both hands on the ball at the same time this is called a double dribble. After advancing up the court the players will pick up their dribble. Once the player picks his or her dribble up they cannot dribble again. The player must establish a pivot foot. James Naismith was the creator of basketball. He created it in 1891 to condition young athletes in the winter. The “hoop” was a peach basket and the ball was a soccer styled ball. There were many rules for the new game. He created it in a YMCA gym in Springfield, Massachusetts. His team of eighteen was divided into two teams of nine and then the peach baskets were nailed above their heads. Every time one would score a basket, the game was stopped for the janitor to get up on a ladder and retrieve the ball. Later on, the bottoms of the “hoops” were taken out and they became a (sort of) real basket.…

<br>Basketball was a simple game, which consists of a ball and a basket. The very first ball that was used was a soccer ball until 1894 when an actual "basketball" was invented. The basketball was slightly smaller, about 30 inches in diameter (William D.Halsey, 1975). While, the first baskets that were used were two peach baskets that were hung from the balcony of the gymnasium (Frank G. Menke, 1970). By 1906, the peach baskets were replaced by metal baskets with holes in the bottom. These holes were placed in the basket so a long pole could be used to poke the basketball out of the basket. This was better then in the early days, when a ladder was used to climb and fetch the ball out of the basket. Finally, in 1913 a hoop with a net was invented so the basketball could fall freely to the ground (Lauren S. Bahr, 1995). In my opinion, the invention of the hoop and net was a major step in the game of basketball. Due to the free falling ball the game 's tempo increased which allowed the game of basketball to develop even…

Basketball players rarely get to sprint at full speed with long strides, so practice building your agility by hopping off one foot in different directions, changing directions frequently during short sequences of sprints or zig-zagging quickly through cones or figure-eight patterns. Basketball requires a player to start and stop throughout the game, forcing a player to accelerate, decelerate and change direction with equal skill. The lateral quickness also helps players provide better help defense. Michael Jordan had great physical ability as a basketball player. Michael used his mobility and agility to pass defenders on the court to score a countless number of shots. His agility, helped Michael defend other players on the defensive side of the court.
