The contest is over. James Haliday’s fortune has finally been won. The backstory to the contest is as follows. When James Haliday (creator of the OASIS) passed away six years ago, in his will was a video. That video explained that before he died, Haliday inserted “easter eggs” into his most popular game. He programmed in three different keys to three different gates. The first player to open the last gate wins Haliday’s fortune of over 240 billion US dollars. Haliday gave gunters, people who tried to win the contest, a hint in the form of a riddle. This riddle led them to one of the keys which then had another riddle, this was how pleople were supposed to find all the keys and gates. The Sixers are the yin and the gunters are the yang. The Sixers are a multimillion dollar company with experts who are trying to win the prize. This is considered unfair to the gunters, who are by themselves and think the Sixers ruin the spirit of the contest. This scavenger hunt all inside the OASIS has been going on for six years. Yesterday a gunter claimed the prize. It all started when the Sixers deciphered the last riddle and have found the last gate, but they couldn’t beat the challenge the gate presented. Parzival used a quarter that he won from performing a perfect game of Pac-Man to get revived. He then unlocked the gate and had to beat James Haliday’s high score in the game Tempest. After Parzival surpasses the score, he was teleported somewhere. An interview with Parzival, he said that he was teleported into a recreation of Haliday’s office. The egg was hidden inside the office. To get to it, he had to guess Haliday’s password for his computer. Parzival hasn’t told anyone what the password, so we don’t know those details.
