Pumpkins are associated with the holiday Halloween as a decoration item to display whatever humorous or horrific pictures you can depict! The original “Jack O’ Lantern” actually originated in Ireland where on hallows eve, they would carve turnips to ward off evil spirits. The reason they carved turnips instead of actual pumpkins was because at that time, pumpkins did not exist in Ireland. The story of the “Jack O’ Lantern” actually originated from an old wise tale.
To carve a Jack O’ Lantern, there are a few easy steps you must follow to make it a success. First, to get the full experience, a pumpkin patch would surely be your best bet.Pumpkin patches are always safe to say because they are usually locally grown and family owned farms so

First, you're going to need some cardboard or some newspaper to lay down on the table, floor, etc. Second, you need a knife to cut a plug out to the top of the pumpkin including the stem so you have something to grab. After you cut the plug, you want to make sure you don't pierce the sides of the pumpkins so make sure you cut inwards and not out. Next you're going to want to hollow out the pumpkin. You can buy a scraper or use your hands. Whichever you prefer works just fine to clean out your pumpkin. As you hollow out the pumpkin, you can take the pumpkin seeds and dry them out to eat if you want! Then most people like to use a sharpie or pen to mark out your design. You can always google premade designs on the internet, print them out, and tape or staple them to your pumpkin so that you can now carve any design your heart could desire. The artwork Magic Lantern was created by American artist Jackson Pollock in 1949 and currently is hung on a wall in the Rhode Island School of Design Museum. In order to create his piece, the Pollock used oil paint, aluminum paint, enamel, and even carpet tacks, and ended up with a truly texturally intricate result. It stands at 108.9 x 55.2 cm, or 42 7/8 x 21 3/4 inches for those less metrically-inclined. Magic Lantern is a fascinating abstract painting, but in comparison to many other abstract paintings, this work of art focusses less on representational matters. Instead, it works to be a personally interpretable work when the overall nature and the particulars of it is taken into account, whether through its use of artistic elements or principles of design.…

Bissinger, a journalist from Philadelphia, spent a year living in Odessa following this team around finding out for himself why there is such an obsession for the football team in this town. The book has been quite successful and with that has drawn controversy from some people apart of this book, and the town of Odessa, blaming him for portraying them as highly racist. Even with the controversies, you are able to see that through his points of view to mention the truth and facts, collected in order to write the book, that Bissinger painted a fair picture of the different kind’s racism going on during that time in Odessa.…

The constant use of the epithet “nigger” is what makes critics most outraged at Huckleberry Finn. In fact, multiple people have taken action and protested the use of this epithet because of its offensive and crude nature. According to Carey-Webb, In November 1991, “black student and parent concerns during the teaching of Huckleberry Finn led to a decision to immediately remove the text from classrooms…. Teachers were prohibited from further discussion of Huckleberry Finn or of reasons for its removal until “more sensitive” approaches were found”(Carey-Webb 23). To remove Huckleberry Finn from our literary canon would be to deny students a clear explanation of the struggles America went through and is still going through to overcome racism.…

The short story I have chosen to read by Washington Irving is “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” This story takes place in a little village on the Hudson River which by some is called Greensburgh, but which is more generally known as Tarry Town. The main character in the story, Ichabod Crane, who “tarried” in Sleepy Hollow came about for the purpose of instructing the children of the vicinity. The main point of the story began with the arrival of a Negro with an invitation to Ichabod to attend a party at the Van Tassel’s mansion. After receiving the good news, Ichabod fixed up his best and only suit and borrowed a horse from Hans Van Ripper, in order to impress Mynheer Van Tassel’s…

“The trouble is not in dying for a friend, but in finding a friend worth dying for.” Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn have the type of friendship that brings to life Mark Twain’s famous quote. Tom and Huck had a great friendship because they were very similar and could relate on many things. For example, they were both very envious by nature. Tom was in envy of Huck because Huck lived a “free” life and had no one to tell him what to do. (Pg39) “Tom was like the rest of the respectable boys, in that he envied Huckleberry…” Huck was envious of Tom because Tom had someone who cared about him and took care of him. They were both very superstitious. An example of their superstition is when they met up at the dead tree and were talking about how dangerous it was to…
