Jack Merridew's Monologue
Fellow boys of the island,
I, Jack Merridew, would like for you to join my way of living. I know that I have been acting in an unpleasant manner and may have scared many of you with my many actions. Others have been with me and my tribe and have had a great time. If you would please listen to my many facts and the many flaws with my competitor Ralph, you might choose me.
When we all had came to the island, we were all dysfunctional. We didn’t know if there were any other people on the island. At one point in time we all had heard a conch being blown and we all ran to the place where the conch was blown. My competitor, Ralph, was holding that same conch. Then you all had elected him to be chief and not me. Instead I was elected leader of the hunters. Fast forward, we had a reelection and was voted chief again. Sooner rather than …show more content…
he thinks that everyone has to listen to him. He thinks that rules and government make life run oh-so smoothly. That is not how life works; rules are meant to be broken. In my tribe, there are a minimal amount of rules. We don’t have a conch that makes us obey.
Ralph, your old chief, had a conch. He had used that conch to reign over all of us. Then one day that conch was destroyed and had lost all of his power. But that didn’t stop him. He came into my carefree environment, and tried to give orders. Well that is not how it works in my way of living. Yes, I give orders, that is a given. Those orders are meant to be followed. If you do not follow those orders there will be consequences. Unlike Ralph’s way of living.
As you all know, in the past I was a cruel and evil person. I have done some pretty awful things. Yes I killed a mother sow and did things to it and yes I have disregarded anything that anyone has said to me and I am willing to change. Yes I may get angry, but I mean, doesn’t everyone have
