Jack And Ralph In William Golding's Lord Of The Flies
Lord of the Flies is a book about a group of young boys that end up on an island without any grown ups, they have to survive by themselves. The boys decided to select one of the boys, Ralph, as chief, but another boy named Jack also took a good part of the leadership role. Although both Jack and Ralph are both the supreme leaders on this island, they carry very different personality traits. Ralph is caring, respectful, civilized, and he plans ahead, while Jack can be very rude, aggressive, and is more of a dictator.

Ralph has played an immense leadership role ever since he was elected as chief, so he got a head start in the island’s power structure.

    There are always people who come out with better qualities to be a leader than others. The strongest people however, usually become the greater influences in which the others decide to follow. However, sometimes the strongest person is not the best choice. In William Golding's novel, “Lord of the Flies” Ralph though not the stronger person, shows better leadership qualities than Jack. Ralph displays these useful qualities as a leader by working towards building a manageable life on the island between them.     When Jack and Ralph first met, they were forced by the situation to like each other. They are both strong characters and they seem to have the ability to take control over the situation. The island seemed like a wish come true for them. It was a place where they did not have to follow the rules of the adults. Ralph and Jack knew that instantly and it made them long to spend the time that they were given on the island by their own rules. The island could be their tropical paradise. We are told that Ralph is more appealing and a better speaker. He is also the largest and most physically powerful boy on the island, whereas Jack is described as downright ugly and mean.
