A member of such a society based on character, scholarship and leadership is one who can demonstrate these three tasks in their everyday lives. The ease of maintaining a balanced schedule whilst also upholding these characteristics may not be the simplest of tasks at times, even for the best students, although the drive to strive for this essence sets individuals apart from the majority. I believe that in my everyday life, I demonstrate these ideals and would heartily enjoy guiding others in them. To be exercise any of these qualities requires one’s own desire, a desire which I not only try to instill into myself, but into others as well. Being part of the National Honor Society would not only be an honor in and of itself, but an honor which is able to transcend its membership and let a person such as myself try to better the school, town, and familial communities by doing good in each of them.…

Being a community, network, and family details my view of the “Hokie Spirit.” At Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VT), I am certain that there is overwhelming support from professors and students because of the unique atmosphere I perceived when touring. While walking around the brick buildings, I felt as if all students knew each other, or that each of them had something in common. This aspect that every person who strode pass me entailed, was pride or “Hokie Spirit.” I could sense the fulfillment each individual had for attending one of the top public schools in the United States, and because of this, “Hokie Spirit” flourishes throughout the campus.…

Sigma Alpha Sigma- a name foreign to those apart from my educational setting. A vast amount of students throughout my school follow this name, seeking leadership experience or someone to be led by. Despite a lack of recognition, Sigma Alpha Sigma possesses drastic influence on the community and on the pursuits of education. As a timorous freshman approaching a dauntingly large high school, I was thrown into an abyss of unknowns. My freshman year, I noticed the Greek letters of Sigma Alpha Sigma pass by, reflecting as if they were fluorescent signs. This organization, I learned early on, was crafted to remove the gap between students and teachers while empowering the future leaders of the world. Sigma, to me, has been one of my most significant…

The local news network Herald spotlighted our event, because of the new function of homecoming court, resulting a special needs student who won homecoming king. I believe that my ingenuity to learn from others perspective, and be an open minded individual granted me the opportunity to understand that there was a bigger issue: people felt that the past homecoming court nomination procedure was shallow. At the brink of falling into the abyss, I nearly quitted leadership because of students who became unfavorable of me. However, I chose not to quit because I knew my purpose in serving my community and of being a servant leader. I was bold and took initiative, regardless of any leadership role.
