I recently found a list of goals that I had written 20 years ago. Most of the goals were realistic and I was able to achieve them. While I was checking the items off my list that I accomplished, there was one that I have debated about for many years—returning to school to earn a degree. Returning to school has always been achievable; however, as each year of my life sped by and I got older, I always came up with more and more excuses as to why I should not return to school. I am so grateful for the first day of that class. All the excuses and delays regarding returning to school were in vain. It is amazing the different prospective I know have about being a child verses an adult in school.…

I have a great job in the military teaching new soldiers which is something I love and enjoy. I am ten years away from retiring and looking forward to life after the military. Why would a person that is in the middle of their career want to return to school? The answer to this question is that it’s a personal goal I’ve had for years to obtain a college degree. I have started and stopped several times due to my deployments and family commitments. I decided at that moment that I would return to school and graduate with my bachelor?s degree. I made a promise to myself that I would finish my education. If I complete my education, I would make my parents proud of me. Plus, I want to be the first person on either side of my family to attend graduate school. I am so happy that I choose to attend a two year program over some of the one year programs, because I could not imagine being ready to enter the work force right now. I have a lot of internal conflicts that still need to be resolved both in my personal and professional life. I need to better embrace the understanding of failure, even if I don’t agree with the term and understand that I am still learning something when I fall flat on my face. I need to insert “NO” into my vocabulary and understand that it is ok to use when I am burnt out or already over committed. I also need to remember that this journey to becoming a professional is not one I should take solo, but with the support of the faculty, cohort, family, friends and past mentors who are all supporting…

I would say that my initial motivations to start college at Southern New Hampshire University would be similar to many of my classmates and that is to advance ourselves into our careers. As in my case I am returning to school as I found out without a degree my advancement in the workforce will have limitations. Even though I have gained great experience in my career, the only way to break through the barrier walls and open the doors of opportunity is with education. My first initial motivations involved in me refinish something that I started a long time ago and was not able to complete then, and second motivation is of course getting ahead in my career. My third motivation to restart college my sound a bit odd and that would be to hang my framed degree on the wall for the world to see. I remember when I was child I would go into my father’s office and would see all his degrees and awards framed on the walls. I told myself back then I must have that when I am all grown up. I thought this would also make my father proud as I leaned playing baseball and football in high school failed to win his approval as he did not believe in sports as a way doing that. I spent too much of my early life trying to get him to be proud of me and win his acceptance. Now I have learned it is all about me and making myself proud and that is to invest into myself through college.…

After the summer vacation was over, I went back to school . The new semester began. The familiar campus evoked memories of my first. I still remembered I couldn’t find the classroom and there was a light quiver in my voice, my hands were shaking when I stood in front of the class to introduce myself in my first class last year. In the beginning, I felt uneasy and nervous in the unfamiliar surroundings. Luckily, I made lot of friendly friends and also oriented myself in school over the past year. For me, a new semester means a new start. In the new semester, as a transfer student I still had lots of class to make up. Besides, I gave myself a new challenge. I chose Germen as my minor subject. After few courses of Germen, I considered German was a very difficult language to learn. In studying a second foreign language, I may encounter different kinds of obstacles so I should spend more time and effort into my learning. This is my second years in school and I am a junior now. In the meanwhile, it is my last two years in college. In the future, I expect that I can partake in different variety of extra-curricular activities in the school, give different try and have plans for the future. Also, I hope I can have more confidence in myself at school and try my best to conquer my fear of speaking English in public. After the summer vacation was over, I went back to school . Death penalty also known as capital punishment is the ultimate price paid for committing a heinous crime against humanity. It is use today more conservatively (in the western world) than it was used in ancient days to punish all kind of crimes. Adultery, kidnapping and fornication to name a few are punishable by death in the Holy Bible and Holy Koran. Both the proponent and the opponent of death penalty yell and scream when the word death penalty is mentioned. The proponent may argue that it deters crime while opponent may argue that an innocent may be executed. In United States, death penalty is a law in 37 of the 50 of the states.…
