Course Assessment (CA) Brief
Background
This CA assesses you on the ability to apply information literacy skills through research on a selected issue, and to identify and express different (political, economic, social) perspectives on the issue. You are required to make a 5-minute pitch (in Week16/17) based on your chosen issue, in the role of a concerned citizen of a country that experiences this problem.

The Task
Step 1 – Craft your problem statement and identify an affected country (by Week 12)





Craft your problem statement from your chosen topic area, in consultation with your lecturer E.g. How can we reduce violence towards women in Country X?
How can we improve food security in Country Y?
How can we fight malaria in Country Z?
Select to focus on 1 country (outside Singapore) that experiences this problem
Get your lecturer’s approval for your problem statement and choice of country

Step 2 – Preparation for Pitches (Week 13 - 15)





Your lecturer will divide the class into 2 groups
Students in Group A will present their individual pitches in Week 16; students in Group B will do so in Week 17
You are to present your pitch in the role of a concerned citizen from the country that you have chosen
You are to conduct background research and present a 5-minute pitch addressing the following areas:

Why is this a major problem in your country?
What are the impacts of the problem?
How can we solve the problem?

In your pitch, show that you have considered the political, economic and social perspectives of the issue
You can consult your lecturer during the lessons

Step 3 – Consultation: Review pitch outline (Week 15)




Use the outline template (Page 3) to prepare your pitch outline and show your lecturer your ‘work-in-progress’ pitch outline in Week 15
