Synopsis:
International Technical University (ITU) is an international university with two colleges: one in Oman and the other one in UK. ITU is looking to upgrade its Learning Management system (LMS). The main purpose of this case study is to highlight the recommended LMS for (ITU) and explain all the changes and challenges to upgrade the current LMS. Two main things we should consider in the upgrading: the users and the requirements of this system. The users in ITU are students who don’t have technical background and limited experience in using the computers so the system should be user friendly and easy to use. Regarding the requirements ITU currently using outdated LMS which occurred some problems that affecting the students’ satisfaction from the LMS. The current LMS problems are: System crashes.

Students are facing many problems in accessing information from LMS. Slow in processing the data.
ITU required some new features in the new LMS like new reports, screens and fields and information about the latest technology, research pursuits, events etc. students can achieve everything in one click. Of course the new LMS also should provide faster proceeding speed. The recommended system for ITU is Moodle because it has been recognized as a Top 100 Learning Tool by the Centre for Learning and Performance Technologies. Moodle landed at #12 in the Learning Tool category and was voted the #1 leading Learning Management Tool for 2014. Also there are many reasons to select Moodle like: Moodle is open source, which means no contracts or per user licensing costs to pay each year. You can integrate Moodle with your management system, saving valuable time on administration by automating registration. The money you've saved can be redeployed to provide better training for staff, increasing the use of, and therefore the value of, the Moodle. Moodle allows you to support personalized learning, reaching outside the classroom and better involving staff, students and parents alike.

Findings:
The first issue is that students are not technically inclined and they have only limited experience using computers. The second issue is that learning management software (LMS) usually crashes during the use and student face many problems in accessing information from LMS. So, this system needs to be upgraded as this is the main problem. Due this problem, system will not work properly and students cannot access their information. Therefore, we did a lot of research that if any software can replace LMS. So, Moodle is the alternative method. Moodle can totally replace LMS. Moodle is a highly flexible learning platform. It is also known as a learning management system or virtual learning environment. Requirements for Moodle system:

To run Moodle effectively you should, as a minimum, use the system components listed on this page. If you do not, Moodle may still work but some functionality may be lost. Operating system: Win 7, Mac OSX 10.7+

Internet speed: Use a broadband connection (256 Kbit/sec or faster—this will ensure that you can view videos and online presentations) through USB wireless modem, ADSL, T1/T2, fiber optic or cable. Internet browsers: Google chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet explorer. But internet explorer does not display all the features of Moodle. Settings: We recommend that the following be enabled: Cookies, pop-ups, Java Script. Plug-ins: We recommend that you use the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.
