Science as it has been said is an accumulated and established knowledge of principles and causes, which has been systematized and formulated by the discovery of general truths and the operation of general laws. Advancements in science have occurred for thousands of years, as far back as the ancient Greeks and their effects are becoming even more pronounced until that they have become a threat to humanity. Rachel Carson, a marine biologist and conservationist, once said, “It is a curious situation that the sea, from which life first arose should now be threatened by the activities of one form of that life. But the sea, though changed in a sinister way, will continue to exist; the threat is rather to life itself.” Therefore, I strongly agree with the notion that science is threat to humanity.…

Throughout history science and technology have had big impacts in society. In the 18th and 19th centuries Hawthorne, Von Schiller, and Poe saw the terrible things that science can do to society, thus, they decided to write a warning. In “To Astronomers” and “The Birthmark” Von Schiller and Hawthorne illustrate how scientists have an obsession with success which makes some of their scientific discoveries unreliable. They also illustrate how science was taking the beauty out of nature,…

It is safe to say that everyone agrees that technology has evolved way beyond what people who lived centuries ago could anticipate. Many inventions have paved the way for our modern technologies. The only reason why technology has grown the way it has is all because of science. Science is responsible for how society is today, no matter what ones views are of our modern society. Although it is true that science has had many great contributions to the world, it is argued that it has also made negative effects as well. Although some critics may disagree, these negative affects should be solved outside the realm of science.…
