Is It Right To Accept Gratuities Right Or Wrong?
When we discuss gratuities and whether it is right or wrong to accept them, we need to know the meaning of it. Gratuities are “items of value received by an individual because of his or her role or position rather than because of a personal relationship with the giver” (Pollock, 2014, p.179). When a law enforcement officer receives free gifts from a store or restaurant owner if he or she is not careful it can lead to corruption. The reason being is the officer would have the tendency to go to that establishment and spend more time there, than other establishments which can show favoritism.
The argument for law enforcement officers accepting gratuities can be a positive thing. This could help establish a relationship with the store owner
