Shambaugh puts down China - says US > China!

Not arguing whether China is rising!
!
Must China follow the US in order to be a superpower?!

“The most obvious indicator of China’s position on the global stage is it economics. China became the world’s second largest economy in 2011. However, I think the status of being a superpower means more than simply having a large GDP (Japan’s #2 ranking did not make it a superpower). Shambaugh stated that China’s trade is “dominated by low-end merchandise exports” and is not “setting cutting-edge technology”. I agree that in terms of technology, it lags far behind the US. Nonetheless, China is still a rising power China is on track to pass the US in terms of spending on R&D in 10 years. It also has massive investments throughout Africa and
South America, which puts them on par with many of the former powers in terms of global reach.”! !

“I believe that China is erring on the side of caution, especially because it has seen the toll US involvement in the international arena, especially in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, has taken on US economy.”

Since World War II, Japan started to focus on its economic growth and eventually became the second largest GDP in 1967. Japan is currently the world’s fourth largest exporter and sixth greatest importer in the processing industry and high-technology. As Japan’s position has grown, their political, economical power in the world has grown, too. However, as many Asian and Latin countries’ economical development efforts are growing rapidly, Japan’s former position is threatened. Especially in the case of China, since they opened the market, now they are 4th biggest country in terms of economic size. The biggest reason that China has a big potential is its big market size and huge population. India or China’s economic size can be big, but the national income will be hard to get into high-national income countries group and potential growth limitation will come earlier than other advanced countries had gone through. If densely populated country such as China becomes the highest-national income country, former powerful economic countries such as Japan or the United States will have to give up their wealth in the world market. That is not going to happen in terms of earth energy and resources limitation, environmental pollution, and trade or market share.…

The US had previously accounted for about 30 percent of global economic output. Since 2000 to 2001, this amount has slowly dropped. The terrorist attack of 9/11 occurred during an international financial crisis that still remains today. The fighting in Afghanistan, again, has caused major setbacks for the United States.…

    Decline Of Primacy

The U.S. has maintained its power and influenced in the world for a long history, and it established the fact that the U.S. is the most effective and powerful country in the world in every field of the international affairs such as politics, economy, and military. Its military expenditure is far greater than that of other states and is approximately 50% of the world military expenditure, even though the new emerging great powers like China try to achieve the U.S. military capability and have been investing their military (Lieber, 2011). Moreover, one of the rising powers, China, has drastically grown its economy and has expanded its production nationwide. Its products are, for example, available in any parts of the world, and people can buy them so easily. As a result, China acts as a leader of the Third World, insofar as other new great powers such as BRICs countries have been also developing gradually (Best et al, 2008). However, some international relations analysts argue that the emergence of the new great powers is not so fast enough to overcome the US primacy and cannot achieve the U.S. economically at this stage. The fact that China has been developing its economy so fast is not because China has gained a power to defeat the US economy, but because China has a huge population. Because of the huge population in China, its economy gets bigger.…
