Is America Still Surprisingly Or Overworked?
In the article “Americans Are Overworked, but Still Surprisingly Happy on the Job,” author Suzanne Lucas presents the idea that many Americans are overworked, but majority of them feel more satisfied. It’s better than sitting at your job and doing nothing, because you will feel lazy and lose interest in working. She also indicates that we shouldn’t work too much to be happy, it will cause burnout. Being overwhelmed with too much information and constantly connected to work through technology will lead to burnout. For example, having too much meeting in one day or getting too much emails about work after the hours. Lucas states that burnout can put the business at risk, because it’s one of the biggest reason why people want to switch job and it decreases the workers’ productivity. In addition to prevent burnout, she suggests the managers to put less stress on their employees. Such as giving a right amount of workload and due date. In conclusion, Lucas illustrates examples of providing the workers with more furlough day, advanced technology, …show more content…
If burnout are not being treated right away, it can lead to a dread of going to work. That will lead workers to find a new job. It also put the business at risk. Lucas mentions how putting a lot of pressure on the workers will make them burn out. Burning out will decrease their productivity. In David Horsey’s article “American work obsession outweighs family values,” he discusses that people who overwork will become less efficient and less creative. I think they both made a very good point. When I spent too much time doing homework, I feel brain fried. The quality of my work decreases, and I start taking longer to finish my homework. This shows that overworking is not only bad for individuals, but the whole company as well. If the workers are less productive, they won’t get anything

    The definition of burnout in a work sense it refers to a state of overwhelming feeling, emotional listlessness, and depression because prolong levels of high stress (Scott, 2010) this is usually work-related or in life demands.
