Is Algernon: Is It Right Or Wrong?
I think that it is right and wrong. It is right because if we didn’t have them we would have 35% less humans in the world. That is because we wouldn't have them to see if it would be worth giving them it or if they would just die when they gave it to them. They only use animals like rats, birds and sometimes chimps (monkeys) but the chimps are rarely used for testing. They use these animals because they are the closest animals to the human body with the organs and how the body works and what it eat. It’s wrong because if they did what they did to Algernon and then he died because of it, it’s wrong because no animal should have to go through that. What if you got put through that? I know I would hate it because they put me through some thing

They attempt to draw the line, but as stated in the article by Hobson-West, they use can have a tendency to obstruct the experiments progress, and in turn be more harmful in the long run. In the article “Ethical and Scientific Considerations Regarding Animal Testing and Research” the authors state that “some in the scientific community are beginning to question how well data from animals translates into germane knowledge and treatment of human conditions.” Simply meaning that, it is being discussed that the results coming from medicinal testing on animals may be producing results, however, the results that are being produced may not be beneficial towards treating ailments in humans. If the point of using animals to test these medicinal products is to possibly save the lives of humans, but the results cannot be applied in a real world setting, than the experiments themselves would be deemed unnecessary, and therefore unethical. This comes from the fact that as times goes on, we get a better understanding of animals and their threshold for pain and emotions…

The doctors Dr. Nemur and Dr. Strauss in "Flowers for Algernon" developed an experiment that made the subject undergo a series of tests, which would make the subject's intelligence increase to 3 times its previous capacity. Are the actions of these doctors of what they did to their subject, Charlie Gordon, be declared "ethical"? According to "Five Steps to Better Ethical Decision Making" (Dobrin) Ethics are doing what is the right thing to do.…

As seen throughout the book, Dr. Numer and all the other professors were constantly treating him like he was inanimate and just an experiment. They never showed him any respect and talked about the effects of the experiment and the scientific breakthrough they made, without ever congratulating him on making it through the tough process. But this didn’t occur only once, it is a constant thing happening in the book. Now Charlie is fed up with it, and wanted to tell him in front of everyone. It does not stop there. Algernon too, is treated like an object and they only feed him when they are done experimenting on him; they won't stop to realize that they created a very intelligent rat that is now able to comprehend emotions. The scientists should…

Attacking using animals in medical experiments, they portray those research as inhumane and unethical because those animals are deprived of their rights of life and liberty. Nevertheless, are we going to use human beings in medical research instead of animals? Obviously, it is impossible and even more inhumane and unethical. It is reported that each year over 3 million of animals die for research projects in Britain, however, the British consume more than 300 million a year in their diet every year. Are those vegetarians the only zoophiles in the world? It is just the law of our nature which makes food necessary to the life of human.…

Not only humans, but animals also benefit from the use of animal testing. In fact, if animals aren’t used for medical research certain vaccines for rabies, hepatitis and other diseases wouldn’t be curable (Trull). However, many people argue that the human anatomy differs from that of animals. Nonetheless, animals and humans still share common features. For example, monkeys, just like humans, share the same fundamental use of hormones to counteract infections, which has helped scientist improve research (Trull). For the people who doubt animal testing should go to hospitals and look at patients who have survived from illnesses and diseases, because if it had not been for animals lives wouldn’t be…

Animal experimentation saves lives and makes vaccines for diseases. But, millions of animals die for experimentation and it doesn’t work every time, even people die because of false information. Animals are important in their habitats and kingdoms. If people take them, then they can't do their jobs. Animal experimentation is not needed for us because of how many animals die for it and how many false procedures there are that also kill people.…

Others might say that animal testing is good because we can find cures for some of the terrible diseases that live here. It is more true that only 2% of the cures actually works. Also, that 2% has a chance to hurt people also. But it is true that some of the cures such as, lung cancer, birth defects, and spinal cord injuries. But if you are going to do animal testing and let it continue you should use more common animals such as rats, mice, and maybe ducks but not monkeys and other more endangered…

Each year, more than 100 million animals are killed in lab for product testing. Now a days, scientists are using animals for their research and testings, and I disagree with the use of animals. It is unfair to animals because in the end it kills them, it may not actually work on humans, and the cost of it.…

Although it is not right, I also believe that it is much better than testing on humans. I believe animal testing is animal cruelty because scientists and researchers don't care about what animals feel and don't care what they do to animals as long as they see the results they want to see. As explained in the article “Animal Testing and Its Gift to Humans” by Frankie Trull states "The government defines an animal experiment as a ‘procedure’ which is 'likely to cause... pain, suffering, distress, or lasting harm'" (Trull 12). Seeing as how these experiments cause pain to animals is essentially seen as animal…

    Animal Testing Is Wrong

Animal experimentation is not only cruel, but expensive as well. Thankfully, there are accurate, cheaper and quicker alternatives. First, there are the In vitro tests which are used to diagnose disease or health of patients using the patient's blood sample or body tissue. Another is microdosing, where humans are given low quantities of a product to test the effects on the body, without affecting the whole body system. There are also many computerized patient-drug databases, virtual drug trials, and stem cell and genetic testing methods. The United States alone spends about $16 billion dollars every year, coming from taxpayers, for animal experimentation. Just think about how much money the US could save if it abolished animal testing as a whole. The US has been in debt and in a depression for years, yet it continues to throw money down the toilet just to torture and kill animals. Animals are NOT the only way to test…

Millions of animals are used every year for a wide variety of scientific and medical purposes. Some of this scientific research is to learn about and improve the welfare of animals, but most of the animal experiments are unfortunately conducted for human benefits. An estimated eight million animals are used in painful experiments, which can range from getting pricked with a needle to more severe experiments, and ten percent of these animals do not receive painkillers. Then after all of the pain that they had been put through, some of them are euthanized when scientists are no longer in need of experimenting on them. Animal rights advocates want government agencies to impose heavy restrictions on animal research, but their opposition of painful animal experimentation is matched by the growing concern that these restrictions would pose a threat to scientific progress. Although there has been scientific progress from this, animal testing is still cruel, immoral, and unnecessary because all animals, like humans, have value and are worthy of being treated with respect.…

Every day, animals such as rabbits, chimpanzees, and mice take part of medical experimentation. “Chimpanzees share 99% of their DNA with humans, and mice are 98% genetically similar to humans. The United States and Gabon are the only two countries that allow experimentation on chimpanzees.” (The Jane Goodall Institute of Canada). What people don’t understand is that these animals contribute to medical discoveries regarding human health. Animals should be used for medical experimentation because they contribute to many life-saving cures and treatments, they are similar to human beings in many ways, animals are the only organisms other than humans who we can experiment on, and the animals themselves benefit…
