The Digital Camera

Have you ever wondered who created a camera that can actually capture a moment in time and saves it inside the camera, and that camera can transfer the image to the computer, while being capable of editing the image on the camera itself? I think the digital camera is very important because it takes photography to a whole new level. In this essay, I will explore who invented the digital camera, where that person got their idea, and how it affect our society.

The digital camera is an extremely useful device, being capable of “freezing” time and converting that moment into a picture by using electronic filtering to generate colors and creating the image, then store them in a memory card. All those actions are done so quickly, that the user hardly realize how many things the camera actually execute when they take the photo, by pressing a button. A digital camera enables us to edit, delete, or print it using a computer, which is very convienent. It was created in 1975, which is in the late 20th century.

The inventor of the digital camera, Steven Sasson, took a risk and was the first person to actually be able to sucessfully build a fimless camera. He was born at Brooklyn, New York, in 1950. The idea came to the photography industry when they thought of have a camera which would let them edit the images using the computer. Kodak, the current major camera producer, and the company that Steven Sasson works at, was the first to oficially introduce to the global market the digital camera.

The invention has a large impact on the human society, and to be more specific, all the photography specialization in the world right now. As I mentioned before, it is giving photographers all over the world a better experience, giving families an opportunity to save the image they take on their computer, then transfer them into

The evolution of photography, from the very beginning to the modern technology we have today, is largely due to a few select specialists that took the matter into their own hands. Many discoveries were made about photography during the late 1800’s and into the 1900’s, but none greater than the discoveries of Ansel Adams. Ansel Adams made a huge impact on photography because of his technological advances, environmental work, and how he won the hearts of many with his beautiful works of art.…

Photography, meaning “drawing with lights” in Greek, is an art as well as a science of capturing light and storing it on a medium with unprecedented accuracy. Yet, up until the late 18th century, history was mainly recorded through the techniques of painting and the press. These mediums unarguably contained a certain degree of a truth, though, it was not uncommon for events, such as war to be composed with glorified details, or an unfavorable bias from the artist at hand. Beginning in the 1830’s, cameras provided a revolutionary solution by combining the advancements in optics and chemistry. Consequently, the new medium of photography was established and forever changed how history would be visually captured. Unlike other methods, photography…

Photography, however, did not really begin until 1839 when the world heard about something startling. Louis Daguerre had invented a way to permanently reproduce a fleeting image on a metal plate. It took 30 minutes to expose, not eight hours. The advent of this technology resulted in a new language that everyone understood. The language was photography, through which we could recall a moment frozen in time and could share it with others.…

Photography has many uses for business, science, manufacturing , art, and recreational purposes. Traditional photography made it difficult for photographers who worked at remote locations without easy access to processing facilities, and competition from television pressured photographers to deliver images to newspapers with greater speed. Photojournalists at remote locations often carried miniature photo labs and a means of transmitting images through telephone lines. In 1981, Sony unveiled the first consumer camera to use a charge-coupled device for imaging, eliminating the need for film: the Sony Mavica. While the Mavica saved images to disk, the images were displayed on television, and the camera was not fully digital. In 1991, Kodak unveiled the DCS 100, the first commercially available digital single lens reflex camera. Although its high cost precluded uses other than photojournalism and professional photography, commercial…

In 1826 the Frenchman Joseph Nicephore Neipce created the first permanent picture that would be called a photograph. Another Frenchman, Louis Jacques Mande Daguerre, developed the daguerreotype in 1839, which produced the first photograph with true clarity. At this same time the British inventor, William Henry Fox Talbot, used paper negatives to make paper pictures called the calotype. These pictures were soft and blurry and did not appeal to the masses. These men, along with Sir John Herschel, who discovered a fixing agent for paper images and therefore credited with…

In 2018, we have a completely different view on the world than when “On Photography” was published in 1977. Almost forty years later, as an audience we have to think about how the world has changed and how photography has progressed. Photography now is accessible to anyone who has a smartphone and the desire to do so. There will be millions of different interpretations of the same place, but a different view. Photography limits what we place into reality and pollutes the idea of even going out and living your life since you can experience it through a smartphone or computer. Many people are just becoming lazy since they can experience whatever they want from the comfort of their…
