1.Perform a SLES 10 installation
Boot from installation media

Choose cd from folder then click “Next”

Select the system language ( English us )

Select the installation mode
Select “New Installation” then “Next”

Set the clock and time zone
Choose the region and time zone.

Understand and change the installation settings
Choose “ Create Custom Partition Setup”

Select the partitioning

Select “Custom Partioning (for experts)

Verify partitioning = 2GB for swap and 2GB for /
File system “Reiser”
+2GB
Mount “/”

File System “Swap”
End +2GB
Mount “/swap”

Select software

Unselect the Genome Desktop Environment
Select KDE Desktop

Start the installation process
Wait until it done install


2.Configure the SLES 10 installation
Set the root password = passwd

Set the hostname = webmaster


Configure the network
“use following configuration” and then “next”

Test the internet connection
Select “ No. skip this test” then “next”

Novell Customer Center Configuration and Online Update
Select “ use following configuration” then “next”

Manage users
Select “Local (etc/passwd) then next

Configure network services
Next

Configure hardware
Next



Finalize the installation process
Next

Next

After the installation finish it will shown as below :


TASK 2 USER ADMIN

ON SERVER1

a) Create a new partition and mount it to /home.
- size is 2GB
- file system is ext3
- partition to be mounted automatically during boot

b) Create a new group called "linux"
- GID = 7000

ON SERVER1 AND SERVER2

c) Add the following users:
NameUsername User ID
Ian Rushirush7010
James Wongjwong7011
Abdul Rahmanarahman7012

- The primary group for all new users is "linux" and the secondary group is "users" - Include the new users' full names in the /etc/passwd file - The user's home directories to be located under /home.

- DO NOT CREATE the home directories on Server2
- The password for each user is "suse"

At server 1 (A)
#yast2 disk

Choose “create” and then select “primary partition”

*File System = Ext3,
*End = +2GB,
*mount = /home
*accept

#groupadd –g 7000 linux

Server 2
#groupadd –g 7000 linux

On server1:
#useradd –m –g 7000 –G 100 –c “Ian Rush” –u 7010 irush #passwd irush
#suse

#useradd –m –g 7000 –G 100 –c “James Wong” –u 7011 jwong #passwd jwong
#suse

#useradd –m –g 7000 –G 100 –c “Abdul Rahman” –u 7012 arahman #passwd arahman

On server2:
#useradd–g 7000 –G 100 –c “Ian Rush” –u 7010 irush #passwd irush
#suse

#useradd –g 7000 –G 100 –c “James Wong” –u 7011 jwong #passwd jwong
#suse

#useradd –g 7000 –G 100 –c “Abdul Rahman” –u 7012 arahman #passwd arahman

TASK 3 QUOTA

On Server1

a) Create a new partition and mount it to /qtest.
- size is 1.5GB
- file system is ext3
- partition to be mounted automatically at boot

b) Create a directory named /qtest/qall
- Owner of this directory is "root"
- The directory is also belonging to the group "linux"
- The group "linux" and the owner have full access to this directory, no access at all for other users - Only the owners can delete their own files
- All files created in /qtest/qall will belong to the group "linux" regardless of the users' primary GID

c) Setup quota for /home
- Only involve the users added above
- In each of their home directories, the restriction are as follows: i) Each user are allowed a maximum of 10MB (soft limit = 10MB, hard limit = 13MB) ii) No limit for...
