Do you feel you are capable of having a successful interview? Webster defines an interview as “a formal consultation usually to evaluate qualifications (Webster). defines an interview as “a formal meeting in which one ore more persons questions, consult, or evaluate another person” ( Technology today has changed the scope of a successful interview. A successful interview contains five key components; knowledge of the importance of an interview, preparation of questions, appropriate dress, interview etiquette, and history of interviews. An interview is considered the most important part of the hiring process. Why do we have interviews? Before accepting applications for a position, businesses have a list of qualifications each applicant must meet in order to fill the open position. They then begin to weed out applications that do not fit their qualifications. From there they begin the interviewing process (employment). The hiring process provides “could be “employees with their best opportunity to inquire about various aspects of the company’s operations and expectations. Most interviews will last between 30-60 minutes. This gives the interviewer enough time to evaluate the applicant and make a wise decision. They use interviews to determine a person’s personality and to answer any last minute questions that were not asked on the application (Doody). Not only are the interviewers looking for someone with certain qualifications, but also someone who has a good personality. The interview is the most important part of the hiring process. It gives life to your application. It also gives you a chance to correct any mistake you may have made on the application or explain any issues at hand. Interviews provide the opportunity also for you to decide if the atmosphere is some place you would feel comfortable with if hired. After the interview, the business may agree that you meet all qualifications, landing the job, or that you would be better suited in a different location. There are many ways to make sure you achieve that successful interview in order to land the job. One which includes preparation for any questions that may be asked. The hiring process is to eliminate and eventually hire candidates.  Only within the confines of equal opportunity to the questions to be ask according to Fleet and Family Support Center and Military one source web sites.  An employer can ask about a 30 second commercial of yourself, your past experiences related to work and how you can handle the job.  An employer cannot ask about your religious beliefs, politics, and or matters unrelated to the job.  Due to the Equal Opportunity Employment Act (overview). The Federal Government web site for Equal Opportunity is the best site for the laws of employment, what is asked before, during and when unemployed.   There is a hiring protocol appendix at the EEOC web site.  It’s not always what an employer can ask; likewise what you can ask possibly of your future employer.  When going to the interview you got to be prepared for the interview.  Do your research of the company and of the position.  So when you arrive to the interview you know that the job can’t ask about anything not related to the job.  So to better explain some of the different ways that companies have used this hiring protocol is to put questions into situational and behavior interview questions. It is believed that when the Equal Opportunity Employment Act came out it is a combination of several things.  It mentions illustrations of what anyone could ask on both sides. Because when you fill out documents to fill out for work you’ll see the EEOC of 1974 there or whatever updated version that there is on.  So the higher you go up in the corporate world the more research you will have to do in preparing in what to expect in the form of questions in an interview and going to the web site of EEOC is a great start.  Employers and yourself...
