All the people that have served and are still serving our County have done a good job of making Spotsylvania a safe place to live. The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office as a mission statement that they follow, and the statement goes like this:
The mission of the men and women of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office is dedicated service to improving the quality of life through a partnership with our community. We are committed to protecting life, property, and reducing the fear of crime. With honor and integrity we uphold the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Constitution of the United States. Sheriff Smith stands by this statement to keep Spotsylvania County a safe County to live and raise children in.
Howard Smith is the present sheriff for Spotsylvania County and has been since 2004. He was just re-elected on 11-6-07. Howard Smith has been a Spotsylvania County resident for over 34 years and graduated from Spotsylvania High School. Smith has served Spotsylvania County for about 27 years. Smith is the type of person committed to safe neighborhoods and reducing crime in our community. He continues to expand his knowledge of crime prevention and reduction through on going training to get the job done. Some of the different training programs he has completed are: •
