THE BROAD TYPES OF INTERVIEW * STRUCTURED INTERVIEW
Also called the standardize interview, their sequence and their wording are fixed
This type of interview uses interview connection
THE ADVANTAGE OF STRUCTURED INTERVIEW:
1 .It enables the researcher to examine the level of understanding a respondent has about a particular topic.
2. It can be used as a powerful form of formative assessment.
THE DISADVANTAGE OF STRUCTURED INTERVIEW: 1. It is time consuming
2. The quality and usefulness of the information highly dependent upon the quality of question asked. * UNSTRUCTURED INTERVIEW
It is more open and flexible. It is done in an open situation where the content, sequence, and wording of the questions are in the hands of the interviewer. Like standard interview it should be carefully planned and the research purpose govern the questions asked. * Minichiello et al. (1990) defined it as interview in which neither the question nor the answer categories are predetermined. * Patton (2002) describes it as a natural extension of participant observation. * COMPROMISE TYPE OF INTERVIEW This kind of interview can use alternate questions that he thinks appropriate for the interviewee.     Positivist sociologists like this as they see the structured interview as having the advantage of creating data which is high in reliability. To elaborate on this point, a Positivist would say that this is beneficial because generalisations can then be made from collections of the interviews. Pre-coded questions (with fixed response categories) also make it simpler to analyse the data, which then makes creating generalisations easier.
