"the REAL Jay Gatsby"

Reporter: Mr. Gatsby, is it true that you have connections to Meyer Wolfshiem, a known criminal and head of illegal industries ?

Gatsby: If by "connections" you mean a friendship purely private and not business-related, then yes I do.

Reporter: How about the rumour that you only moved to East Egg, to make it easier to keep your illegal alcohol business under control ?

Gatsby (laughing): Unfortunately neither of this is true, I am not connected to any illegal deals and I moved here because of private reasons.

Reporter: Which are?

Gatsby: Well, in fact it is only one reason and it is called Daisy Buchanan.

Reporter: You mean the wife of Tom Buchanan, living across the bay?

Gatsby: Yes, I had known her for over 10 years and back then we were in love. But due to given circumstances, we could not get married and be together.

Reporter: What were these circumstances?

Gatsby: Firstly, I was about to go to war, because I was in the military and also my financial situation back then was not worth her parents' approval of our love.

Reporter: So now you have come back, as one of the richest men of our country. Do you mind me asking how you became so wealthy?

Gatsby: I was born into a wealthy mid-west family in San Francisco and inherited most of my money.

Reporter: Didn't you just imply that you were poor as a young man.

Gatsby: Yes, that is because I inherited, but then lost everything and had to work in different businesses to get back what I owned once.

Reporter: I understand. So, what is your plan now ? Will you try to win
Daisy Buchanan back ?

Gatsby (smiling): Yes indeed, old sport. She was, is, the love of my life and I will do anything to get her back.

Reporter: I wish you best luck with that, and thank you for your time.
It was great meeting you.

Gatsby: Thank you, it was my

    F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby establishes characterization through an intimate relationship between Daisy and Gatsby without ever explicitly discussing about it. When the two became lovers, Gatsby was surprised to discover that "it didn't turn out as he had imagined.” However, he did feel as though they were married after this encounter. This conveys an aspect of how Gatsby fell in love with Daisy’s allure rather than her personality and was blindly obsessed with being with her. Shortly later, the two are split apart for a length of time and end up reuniting after five years. It is suggested that they resume their sexual relationship and their affair is purely physical with no substance behind it. Once again, Gatsby fails to…

Jay Gatsby can be characterized as a war veteran who is simply desperate to regain his young love, Daisy Buchanan. Gatsby has spent many years changing his life in order to win Daisy back, but when they finally meet again, “… Daisy tumbled short of his dreams” (Fitzgerald 95). Gatsby spent years building up an elaborate imagination of what he thought Daisy would be like when he finally met with her again. Not only does he spend many years thinking about her, he uses his time becoming the man he thinks Daisy wants. The way Gatsby changes his whole life for a woman speaks loudly about his character.…

The reason why I think this is not correct is because Gatsby has already achieved success he is extremely wealthy and could get whatever he desires. The only thing he cant get is Daisy. Another example of them two rekindling their past was when Daisy hangs out with Tom, Gatsby, Jordan, and her husband on the hottest day ever. This was the worst thing they could have done. During lunch Daisy's husband Tom realizes that Gatsby and his wife are in love and having an affair. Gatsby just stares at Daisy with love eyes, and Daisy right next to Tom, says that she loves Gatsby. On page 122 a lot of stuff goes down Tom sees Gatsby and says “Mr. Gatsby! He put out his broad, flat hand with well-concealed dislike. “ I’m glad to see you, sir…..Nick…..” Right after that Daisy tells Tom to make them drinks and she immediately kisses Gatsby and says on page 123 “You know I love you.” As you can see Gatsby thinks that his dream is coming true and it seems that way but it will soon get shattered when Tom finds…

Even though he doesn’t inherit money, he keeps on lying. He covers the origin of his wealth by mentioning that he owns a chain of Drugstores. However, Tom was able to find the truth and we realize Gatsby’s corruptness when Tom informs “He and this Wolfsheim brought up a lot of side street drug stores here and in Chicago and sold grain alcohol over the counter. That’s one of little stunts. I picked him for a bootlegger for the first time I saw him, and I wasn’t far wrong.” (133)…

Love: I chose the word love because there were a lot of love stories in The Great Gatsby. One of which was the marriage between Daisy and Tom. But there was also a twist to this relationship because Tom was cheating on Daisy with Myrtle and Myrtle was also cheating on her husband George. There was also Nick and Jordan who had a little love going on between them as well. And then of course there was Gatsby and Daisy who had loved each other at a young age but were separated when Gatsby was sent to war. They later reignited their love when they met again in New York but it was short lived because Daisy and Tom left town and disappeared.…

Gatsby did not come from a family with money; he came from a small farming family that lived in North Dakota, and like other small families during the late 1800s they were struggling to make ends meet. This is the reason Gatsby ran away from his family, to start a life he could have only dreamed about otherwise. Throughout the book Gatsby covers up his past with lies and half-truths sown to create a web of protection for his newly acquired wealth, constantly changing it to cover up any doubt that arises in those who he seeks to please.…
