Work and Study:
It is my last week in Jabil Greenpoint. I learn a lot and hope to share the experience through this report.
The first few days here, I started from doing simple jobs, reading sap material. Sap is consisted of three parts, PU (purchasing), SD (selling design) and PP (production management). All together, there are about 10 books, some of which talk about similar contents. Therefore, I felt a little bit bored during the reading, but I could still learn a lot, which can be very helpful for my formal sap study from the staff in Jabil.
After the preparation, I went to purchasing department first. My tutor, Jinzhu, taught me how to run the sap system by demonstration. PU doesn’t cover much information, just vendor master record, purchase order and information record, so it just took me a morning to learn this. Unfortunately, I forgot to take notes when she talked about the sap, so I missed some of the important information. In the afternoon, I built up all the relative parts by myself in the testing zone of sap. Everything went well at that time since it is not complicated. My study of sap in purchasing department came to an end.
Compared to managing sap, what employees in purchasing department really require is communication skill. I felt this strongly on the second day in purchasing department. When one contacts the supplier, he or she not just needs to find the supplier that has the lowest quotation, but also needs to argue for a better price. In order to get a better price, he or she must be very determined instead of hesitated. At that moment, I came up with my internship in Citibank three years ago. At that time, my task was to contact strangers to introduce new products to them. Feeling very nervous, I sweated a lot and stammered. I failed the task at last. Even though I have made a huge progress in communication, I didn’t think I can perform well if I were the one who contacts the supplier. I still need to know
