The intent of this research approach, for the purposed Peninsula YMCA Strategy Plan, is to ensure it is aligned with the organization's vision, mission, and people strategies and values statements. “The mission of the Y is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all, according to its main website, (YMCA, 2014)." In order to assure that the Strategic Plan takes this into consideration, it must be built into the research approach.…

Ministry and evangelization in 2012 must be embraced by people who believe in Jesus Christ and who live to be His hands and heart. All actions, all inactions and all words spoken are an opportunity to live and preach the gospel. St. Francis of Assisi is quoted “Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.” It is through our daily living that we bring the Good News to everyone we know and meet. Opportunities to evangelize to people who may or may not know Jesus are abundant. A baseball team and a baseball game are beautiful metaphors for life and for the Good News of the gospel. Through sport, whether playing, coaching, administering, mentoring or officiating, the actions of Jesus can be found. As more and more people do not actively participate in a religious organization, disciples must look for meaningful and relevant ways to draw people back to God with our actions. In our North American culture, many behaviors, phrases and sayings come from baseball, just as many come from the bible. Ironically, many people do not realize that they are referring to either one. The rules of living a life honoring God our Father are outlined in the bible in both the Old and New Testament. In Paul’s letter to the Philippians 3:14 he says: “I continue my pursuit toward the goal, the prize of God’s upward calling, in Jesus Christ.” In Luke 9:25 Luke puts perspective on winning and losing with “What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself.” In baseball, the rules are spelled out in rule books, with the effects and consequences described in detail. In many circumstances, we may be uncertain of the interpretation of a guideline or a rule. In the Church, we have the Magisterium and the Catechism to assist our understanding and in baseball we have governing bodies and umpires. We cannot live or act in isolation based on our own interpretation of the rules. We must reach out, listen…

Student Ministry is grateful that the Southeast family, as a community, is choosing to invest in a generation that most have given up on. With God's leading, their church family wants to awaken a generation to the glory of God. There are thousands upon thousands of UN-churched teenagers in Louisville, and one by one they want to introduce them to the Savior of the world. The Block is more than a place to go, it's a place to be, belong, and become. The Block is more than a building, it is a starting place to reveal who God is, connect to Jesus and his family, and be sent out to advance the kingdom with our everyday lives. The Block is the sending place for new generation of Christ followers.…

There are multiple ways that recent trends in the sport industry are affecting the YMCA. A majority of them would be revolving around the economy and how the YMCA is considered a luxury to the people. Others would be the increase of fitness in the world and sport curiosity and also the elderly still maintaining their healthy lifestyles. The increased popularity of celebrity athletes in the world are leading to an increased popularity in the sport world (Balmer, 2009). The battle against obesity is increasing the number of people who join a fitness club or health organization. Also, many people are beginning to try to find both healthier lifestyles and seeking a balance between work and leisure (Sports, 2007). Lastly, the way that kids are being taught is changing; practices are becoming known as best practices and the kids are learning more of the sport and becoming better (Stephens, 2009).…

Sports are an integral part of Covenant Christian High School and are ever increasing in both power and popularity. Since the founding of the school, sports have played a role in building not only a name for the school, but building a strong feeling of togetherness with those who play and those who take time to watch and participate. Without sports, Covenant would be another school on the long list of schools, but through sports we set a name for this school and set a standard on which we may be followed.…

Being entrusted to direct a summer camp for twenty-eight counselors and ninety campers has taught me to become a more versatile and confident leader. The Indian-American summer camp, from planning to production, is entirely student-run. The camp is very close to my heart as I previously was a camper. The camp allowed me to build friendships with my peers and my counselors, whom I looked up to as role models. It provided a support system for me as I was able to connect with people who could relate to me. I was incredibly humbled and driven to preserve the camp's legacy.…
