International Adoption Assignment

One area that bewildered me ever since I was a child was opinionated people and how to become one. As a small person I was shy and meek. I wanted everyone to like me, my main goal in life was to be a people pleaser. In fourth grade I auditioned for a play through a children’s acting company. I got the lead female role. I was absolutely terrified, but also enormously proud. That production was my first experience that I can remember meeting openly opinionated people. Since then I have met many others and I have learned to be one of them. The opinions varied back in fourth grade from “Creamy peanut butter is better than chunky peanut butter,” to “Bush did 9/11”. Growing up, in my house you shut up and ate whatever peanut butter was served to you and you did not talk about George W. Bush.
I would say that I excel at the first bullet point “Engagement” the most. I like writing, although I am not great at it. I especially enjoy learning how to argue and form opinions. I took a class similar to this in highschool and I really enjoyed it. In that class we were instructed to write a ten page research paper on a topic that we were interested in. I wrote my paper on international adoption. I have wanted to adopt kids since I was fourteen, but I didn’t know much about the process. Out of any paper I have ever written, besides my flash fiction papers, that research paper was the most intriguing and energizing for me to write. I would say that I lack the most skill in “Creativity”. I am not a creative person in most areas and I find being creative in a structured paper is difficult. If I was taught to write a research paper one way that is most likely the approach that I will take to it every time. When it comes to creative opinions I also am slow to brew.
