Interdisciplinary Studies Personal Statement
My bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies has provided me with a versatile program of study, hands-on and academic experience, and the opportunity to become an excellent and well-rounded employee, myself, in my career. It has allowed me to customize my degree design that would supplement and fit my own personal qualities, work skills, and abilities.

Courses of Interdisciplinary Studies that I have studied are those, such as Inspiration, Senior Seminar, and Internship. The Inspiration course allowed me to use and develop better interpersonal skills, like public speaking and peer discussion. I also developed more computer skills through using programs, like Microsoft Word and Power Point. This Inspiration course also gave me the opportunity to learn and understand more about my different individual interests and cultures, even those present in America. One of my favorite assignments of the Inspiration course was designing and presenting a Multicultural Awareness using Power Point.

I chose my degree based on my experiences living in a multicultural household (Slavic/American), completing various career classes, and visiting multiple countries. My goal is to participate in the Russian Flagship program and learn a third language--Arabic. I plan to apply these languages to my degree; my educational aspirations include obtaining a bachelor's degree in business with an emphasis in international studies. This aspiration feeds off of my desire for travel. The struggle comes in figuring out if this is really what I would like to do. Other subjects that I have a keen interest in include: graphic design, architecture, neuroscience, music, etc. I hope that I will receive a mentor that can guide me in the right direction. Additionally, I aspire to…

The field of sociology and trying to study and understand it is very complicating due to the fact that it is such a wide topic. Feelings change along people and nobody can truly explain why people do the things they do. A student attempting suicide out of nowhere is unexplainable or even a random divorce. The unexplainable minds of people and random occurrences really interests me into pursuing this field.…

The most valuable, interesting, and useful that I learned is the value of liberal arts education comes from the diversity of subjects. As a liberal arts major, I can do anything I want with the degree. I believe that there are a lot of employers that would recommend a liberal arts education as the best way to prepare for success in today’s world. Some of my military retired colleagues say they would give hiring preference to college graduates with skill that enable them to contribute to innovation in the workplace. That’s because the degree in liberal arts provided me the abilities I need to work and contribute anywhere. The purpose this degree is not to prepare me for one specific job. It’s to give me a broad ability to adapt to a multitude…
