General Information about Italian
Italy is located in southern Europe which is a peninsular extending into a Mediterranean sea. There are some of countries border between Italy which is France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia. Italy has an area of 301,230 of square kilometers (116,301 square miles) and coastlines of 7,600 kilometers (4,722 miles), including the island of Sicily and Sardinia. Basically Italy is slightly larger than the state of Arizona.

The capital of Italy is Rome which located at country’s western coast at the heart of peninsular. With 2.8 million residents in 1,285.5 km square (496.3 sq meter), is it also the country’s largest and most populated and the most populous city in European Union. Between 3.2 to 3.8 million people live in the Rome. The city is located in the central western portion of the Italian Peninsular. Rome was the 11th most visited city in the world, 3rd most visited cities in the European Union, and the most popular tourist attraction in Italy. The city is one of Europe’s and the world’s most successful city “brands”. Other major cities in Italy which are included are Milan, Naples, Genoa, Florence, Venice, Palermo, Bologna and Bari.
In Italy, Italian is the official language. However, between 120 to 150 million people use Italian as a second or cultural language, worldwide. Italy has numerous dialects spoken all over the country and some Italian cannot speak Italian at all. Moreover, the establishment of a national education system has led to decrease in variation of language spoken across the country. Other minority language in Italy is include ladin, Slovene, German, which enjoys, equal recognition in the Italian in the province of Alto-Adige and French, which is legally recognized in the Alpine of the Vald’Aosta.
