Dear Ma’am/Sir:

I am writing to you this letter to express my interest to take up graduate studies at your University. I have been aspiring to be part of a school for a long time now that it provides the best education and environment for both graduate and post graduate students. Since I enjoyed my undergraduate studies at a Catholic University, I wanted to continue my post-secondary studies in the same environment with the ability to complete my courses online.

I am eager now to bring my leadership abilities, involved personality, and strong commitment to academic success to business school. I know that there is nothing I can not accomplish as long as I set my mind to it, and this next step is essential for me to realize my dreams for the future. Attending a Master’s program at your university will smooth the path to these goals. Not only will it deepen my expertise, it will also broaden my perspectives and unlock skills I have yet to encounter.

While completing my Finance major in college, I learned a lot of essential business skills, and while my grades at that time in my life were not reflective of my full abilities, my interest in the subject matter was indisputable. At that time in my life I had not fully identified my career goals and had just become a new mother. I also allowed myself to get off focus and failed to make my schooling number one.

Since I graduated, I have worked in various positions, mostly financial. I have taught individuals how to manage their money, pay off/reduce debt, and enhance their financial savings. These work experiences taught me patience, perseverance, and alertness. I have dealt with individuals with various backgrounds; therefore, it helped me to become more flexible when it comes to my communication methods. I also became more creative in coming up with ways to inspire people and help them achieve their long term goals. The

Although I do not know exactly which sect of business I wish to study, I do know that Georgetown’s dedication to ethical and academic growth will serve me well wherever my interests take me. Moreover, a curriculum rooted in Liberal Arts courses will allow me to further pursue my multi-faceted interests ranging from subjects like Creative Writing to History. Through my research of Georgetown I learned that business is the combination of many different disciplines that go hand in hand towards creating one value, and one cannot succeed in the realm of business without sufficient knowledge of the parts that make up the…

    Major in Success

In the book “Major in Success”, author Patrick Combs illustrates through examples and motivates the reader to pursue his/her dreams. He aims to provide the morale support required to ooze the potential out of the reader. In fulfilling this task, he mentions the insignificance of a student’s grades and his choice of a major. Grades define the commencement of one’s career and not being able to maximize your GPA would mean loss of opportunity in terms of time. As far as a major is concerned, a student, who has realized his dreams in earlier stages of his life excels in the chosen field way more than someone who has barely any knowledge of where he/she is headed.…

Before starting my college education, I worked for over 6 years at Mitchell & Ness, a multi-million dollar retail clothing company and store in Philadelphia, extensively in their inventory department. I spent time during the year working with our various warehouse managers to investigate the root cause of inventory adjustments. Working in a position that required attention to detail further taught me ways to improve my problem-solving skills and give me a change to work independently as well as in a team environment. Being able to grow with that company from working on their retail sales floor to their corporate office gave me a full view of the company’s day to day operations and gave me a better perspective on work.…

My high school experience has leaded me to discover several academic strengths and interests, which now relate to my career choice for the future. My academic interest in financial literacy has made an impact on my academic strengths, which include: leadership, organization, communication, critical-thinking, and writing. Due to my interest in financial literacy, I want to pursue a career in business and real estate. This interest spiked during my junior year while I was recovering from knee surgery. After my procedure, I was expected to be absent from school for five days; however, due to a complication, I was forced to stay home for an unexpected, extended period of time. Before my surgery, I gathered all the homework that I anticipated missing.…

I underestimated the time investment in handling a full-time course load and working forty-hour a week. I spent too much time on the job that I could not keep up a good performance in school. I came to classes with tiredness and exhaustion every night. I kept making excuses for staying in my comfort zone even I clearly acknowledged my grades was going down. The peak moment occurred when I got C+ in my advanced Math class and an F in my Computer Science class.…

    Life Factor Assessment

After taking the Life Factors assessment, I learned that I need to be more concerned about my future academic commitment and that my reason for going back to school may be a concern. I guess it’s because I get discouraged at times. Sometimes, I sit and think of the reasons why I’m in school and how it will benefit me. I don’t want to be one of those people with two degrees, and no job, that’s scary to me. Having ample time, having a place to study, and having a solid level of resources and support were all strengths of mine. My strengths are very important when it comes to me being in school, especially an online school. It wouldn’t be easy for me to concentrate and finish my assignments without having a place that I can study without interruptions or having the necessary resources that I need to excel in my course. The support from friends and family is another strength that I feel I need to continue my education. The motivation and extra push is what keeps me going. I think reason is the life factor that I need to focus on the most. I guess I’m one of those people who believe that you can success depends on your work ethic and how much you want it rather than your education because coming from where I’m from, the most successful people are the ones who don’t have a degree. I try to be realistic because I know that in this day and time, a degree is much needed but when people ask me why I need a degree, I’m speechless. I think my reason for getting a degree is because it looks good and I’m afraid that I’ll regret it if I don’t finish. I will change my behavior by figuring out just why I want my education and focusing on the goal that I want to set. Procrastination and time management are the personality factors that I will work most to strengthen because doing things at the last minute and rushing through it is a big problem for me. It’s easier for me to work under pressure but time isn’t always on my side so I think that learning to work at a decent pace will…

However, I ended up failing my calculus class and barely passing my economics class due to the numerous activities I was taking a part of and having to work part-time to cover my living expenses. The struggle that I had faced academically was a huge shock to me because I had been among the top ten percent students in my high school, and never once in my life did I had to take tutoring. Even though I was going to tutoring twice a week and setting more time aside to study, I still failed my exams which caused me a tremendous amount of stress. As a result, I packed up my stuff went back home to enroll at El Paso Community College to relieve the tensions of having to live by myself and to rethink of my goals about what I wanted to do in my college…

After high school I attempted to pursue more of an education at Miller Hawkins Business College. I was only able to finish nine months of this college due to my husband re-enlisting in the United States Navy. At that time I was six months pregnant with my first child. With this move I withdraw from college and move with my husband to Pensacola, Florida. I did not continue my education; instead I started our family and put my education on hold. After 17 years of marriage and 3 children my marriage failed and all I had was my work experience and had lived secured by the military life. At this point I decided that I truly would like to finish what I had started over 20 years ago and get my degree in accounting. I believed that it was time to do something for myself and to fulfill some of my goals that I had started years ago.…

What sets my story apart from many is that my goals never changed despite such difficult odds. Yes, I had to stop and start a few times, but my drive to succeed in terms of my education never wavered. There are a lot of people that start school, stop and then move into a career or trade, with school far from their minds. Not me. My parents dreamed of me finishing and I’ve always wanted to be a pharmacist, so our dreams intersected and the culmination is my continued path to finish college and be successful. There isn’t a roadblock big enough to block my path now; as an older and wise student with a life full of exceptional cultural, educational and life experience behind me, I am well on my way to accomplishing those same goals I set for myself so many years…
