Throughout the session, we saw different stages of physical, cognitive and socio-emotional during childhood. Despite the fact that most of what we saw was not new to me, I think I have a large depth of my knowledge about it. For me, the aspect about which I learned the most is cognitive development. From this aspect, the development of memory, private language, and types of intelligence are the three concepts that have impressed me the most. But I already knew that these three concepts are interrelated to each other AND to other aspects of child development (especially physical).
Besides, I think the evolution of my knowledge is mainly in the understanding of the material. Now I know that the three aspects influence how mutual and that a delay in one causes a delay in the others. I was also impressed to see that everything is followed so that we know what is the next step in the development of the child that we should expect after a step has been taken. For example, we can not expect a child who has not yet developed the mental representations to understand object permanence.
In addition, I learned how parenting affects all developmental aspects of children. Appropriate parenting style encourages the normal development of the child while inappropriate parenting style that slows development, sometimes drastically. So there are internal aspects and external aspects in the development of the child.
Finally, I must say that, in my opinion, the development of e child is in a rather continuous. While there appears to be rather defined steps between which does not happen much, there is always some development is done. To me it looks more like a roller coaster: there is a slower period in which many small changes are made and all of a sudden, the child shows a great development, then another slow period, etc.. However, in the slower periods, there still some development is done. So the development of the child is ongoing, but not always at the same speed. There are
