The true contents of happiness are stated in the article “A Formula for Happiness” by Arthur C. Brooks, the president of the American Enterprise Institute. Brooks states that people realize life and view happiness depending on genes, one-time events and basic values: faith, family, community and work. He pays special attention to the last one. According to Brooks, meaningful work and success considered as passion can make people happier. Brooks cites as an example Franklin D. Roosevelt’s words: “Happiness lies not in the mere possession of money;…

Striving towards the achievement of happiness is what most people do, they make it their one most admired goal in life. John Stuart Mill, in Chapter V “A Crisis in My Mental Health. One Stage Onward.” of his autobiography, claims that if we yearn for happiness and make it our ultimate goal, it will automatically become unachievable. If we divert our attention toward something other than our own happiness, achieving it will become effortless. The journey through the enjoyments of life are what gives us happiness, but if we make it our goal we have failed.…

Immanuel Kant and Aristotle agree that all rational beings desire happiness and that all rational beings at least should desire moral righteousness. However, their treatments of the relationship between the two are starkly opposed. While Aristotle argues that happiness and morality are nearly synonymous (in the respect that virtue necessarily leads to happiness), Kant claims that not only does happiness have no place in the realm of morality, but that a moral action usually must contradict the actor’s own inclination toward happiness. Because Kant and Aristotle hold practically equal definitions of happiness, the difference must arise from the respective relationships between happiness and each author’s framework of morality. Because Kant offers a more universally accessible route to morality, whose end is the happiness of others, the world as a whole would be both happier and more virtuous if it operated under his philosophy.…

One would be that happiness is pleasure and all things we do are for the sake of achieving the feelings that come along with pleasure. Two is that there really is necessary and unnecessary desires that we will encounter in our lives as humans, and is our mission to determine which is which. Happiness isn’t something that you can’t find while being isolated, most likely your happiness will be found in society where other people can help you discover what your happiness is. Lastly is that happiness isn’t just the pursuit of pleasure but to relieve yourself from any type of pain that you or others may suffer from. Perhaps making others smile will pleasure you and fill in the pain that causes you to be unhappy and in the end make you feel…

In the story “the pursuit of unhappiness” John Stuart Mill he believe that we should not look for happiness and we should do more to make others happy rather than our selfes. I agree and believe we should not look for happiness because we need to live our life not depending on a temporary feeling that is never, ever lasting. i strongly believe if it is true it will come to us without us having to search. it’s good to look our self's, but i believe we should not force happiness upon us if it is only momentary. Even if so the feeling is temporary we should try to give others that spark of joy in them by showing them good or helping them in a positive way. To end my opinion i agree with John Stuarts behalf that we should not search for our happiness and rather so give more than we get.…
