Inspiration My Ass

ENGL 1102_6061

10 March 9, 2015
Inspiration, My Ass Many times the road to inspiration is not paved. Often, it starts as a rocky dirt road that forces me to clench my teeth as I drive on it due to the fact that I cannot stand to hear the pebbles being kicked up against my cars paint job. I feel the steering wheel vibrate in my hands as I ride over the bumps of self-censorship and the shifting of my equilibrium as I swerve to avoid the potholes of self-doubt. "Left turn ahead," says the GPS of my subconscious. I am unsure of where it is taking me, or who punched in the address, but I blindly follow it. Even though it has led me down several dead ends and through a few rough neighborhoods, I still trust this internal GPS; ninety-nine percent of the time it leads me to where I need to be. Just then, the automated female voice calmly states "You have reached your destination, 1001 Discovery Lane." I jump out of the car and something beautiful catches my eye, something I would have never found had I not ventured on this journey, an idea! I am not always inspired to write; however, usually the process of writing leads me to inspiration. When it comes to writing, I cannot wait for inspiration. I am unable to sit around hoping the clouds part with a muse descending from heaven ready to bestow brilliance upon me with just a simple touch on my forehead. Being a standup comedian and comedy writer, people always expect fresh content and original ideas from me, so I have no time to wait around for inspiration. A lesson I have learned along the way, to deal with this lack of creativeness, is a process others have called freestyle writing. I pick up a pen and a piece of paper and for twenty minutes, write. This process has led me to come up with copious ideas for jokes and comedy sketches, a number of which have been featured on popular comedy websites such as FunnyorDie.com. The freestyle writing method gave birth to these

In her work “The Inspired Writer Vs. the Real Writer”, by Sara Allen is about two different type of writers, the inspired writers and the real writers. The inspired writers are the kind of people who don’t have a problem writing essay, or anything that has to do with written in general. They are very confident about their work. On the other hand, real writers are people who seem to have writers block way too often. This writers seem to also have trouble in handing in papers without looking over them. Mostly they think that improve on something that just doesn’t come natural to them will never happen.…

Writer’s block is a term often use to describe a creative block when they are unsure and lost on how to go about with their writing; it’s not just the inability to continue with their work, but it can also be the inability to produce something creative. Moreover, this term is not isolated to writers only, this creative block can apply to all those who practice the art — artists, composers, choreographers. In this essay, I shall explain a few relatively common causes of writer’s block and the techniques to overcome this creativity block. I will be referring to several sources and to my experience on how I deal with writer’s block.…

Too many books on writing tell the aspiring writers who read them to let inspiration come to them, but that is nothing like any writing realistically works. “You [cannot] wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club” (Jack London). Writing a paper that delves into the rhetoric of Heart of Darkness by Conrad will not be affected much by inspiration, and writing a poem on the beauty of a tree should bypass conscious inspiration if done…

Every day is a new beginning for more creativity and learning opportunities for everything and anything. It’s in all of us and it may take a prolonged journey to find it. For many including myself, it took going through a hardship in life to realise what type of writing style I enjoyed. Even figuring out that I actually liked writing outside of school. This style was discovered through creating a few journals. I had transferred those journal like entries into classroom assignments that were due.…

With all this being said about my writing weaknesses I still find ways to enjoy writing and work past the struggles in writing- I may not be the most organized writer in the world, while the graphic organizers do indeed help me, but I always find myself changing my mind on what to write, whatever sounds better to the ear to me. My desire to change what I already have written may be why I’m unorganized at times. One thing that anybody that truly knows me knows, is that I rarely ever quit something once it is started, and I will continue to do my best until it is physically impossible for me to do…

Writing is something that has never been easy for me. For most of my life I have tried to avoid it if I can, but of course I can't avoid stuff like school forever. So for the most part all of my writing has been forced upon me. Even with the help of teachers and some helpful hints from the internet, it never got easier. But obviously I have written before and like anyone else who has written before, there must have been some sort of influence. My main influences were the books I have read, my teachers who have helped me throughout the years, my experience, and strangely enough my music.…

    Writing Style Per Image

The picture that best describes my writing is the image with three men with an incline arrow and a decline arrow. I see myself as this image (one man on top full of confidence and great ideas who has a big vision and a complete game plan in mind and sees himself going places, meeting goals and deadlines and then to men on the bottom pulling my ideas and confidence down faster than I can get on paper). I have always felt like my mind is going a million miles a minute with ideas and at the time I will be very excited about it, but when it comes to sitting down and putting it in writing, my lack of confidence and knowledge about writing accurately will start me thinking about others judging me, therefore I see the two people on the bottom pulling my ideas down and because I could not get to paper what I was actually thinking in my head, by the time it gets to paper it is not what I first envisioned. I have done this in my own life or even went as far as given others my ideas to run with, because of lack of confidence, so this picture really spoke to me about what my writing process is now and what I hope to gain from this class. The image that I hope will describe my writing process at the end of this class is the tree, because to me this represents growth and new beginnings. When the tree symbolizes my new writing process, I will be able to have the confidence and knowledge to take my own visions, put them to paper and run with it. I hope to learn new traits of this writing process that will help me to gain strength in this area. As I continue to look at the picture with the three men, one advantage I do see is the man on top even though he lacks the confidence to feel like he is on top others may already see him this way and he just doesn't realize that. I hope by learning my writing process and the areas I need to develop that someday I can have the confidence to put my ideas down on paper as fast as they come to my mind. I am excited about what the future…

Writer’s block. A common problem suffered by all different types of authors. But, there is many ways to overcome it and one of the best ways is to find some kind of inspiration. Sometimes, the best kind of inspiration out there comes from other authors and their stories. The screenplay writer of West Side Story, Ernest Lehman was inspired by the author of Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare. William Shakespeare inspired Ernest Lehman because of the obvious similarities in theme, plot and the characters of both of their stories. Inspiration can be the best way to jumpstart your own imagination and is especially helpful when it comes to the theme of a story.…

As I became more mature, my creativity blossomed. I quickly became a very creative person, so when writing I expressed every thought that came to mind. There was just one problem. I didn't have a balance between being creative , and being too creative. Although i had left the robotic writing style, i now had a new issue of being too creative. I realized quickly, when i entered my freshman year in high school , that sometimes it isn't about what you write, but how you write it. I went to a high school named Watkins…

This essay is about how inspiration leads to overcoming obstacles. It discusses how obstacles affect our daily life, and how one should go about overcoming them without pulling their hair out. People cannot control the obstacles that come about, but as people can learn how to control and react to them. People should be able to view obstacles through the eyes of possibility, instead of the eyes of defeat. Despite the thought of people wanting to think about being confronted with obstacles focusing on it may cause loss in the right direction. So people end up down the wrong path and that brings tougher obstacles. In the first place people have to change their own direction a little to accommodate an obstacle in their own way. Being flexible allows people to be open to finding a new direction. Sometimes people lose their vision when they are confronted with challenges, and that is where inspiration from the past can be of great value to overcoming some of these obstacles. When people focus on the now, they are able to attempt to negotiate obstacles; sometimes people can even avoid them. Don’t quit! I am reminded of a quote from Vince Lombardi “winners never quit and quitters never win” this is such a true statement. Whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when someone really wants something, it’s because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. And when someone wants something the whole universe conspires in helping them to achieve it. Inspiration is such an important factor in maintaining ones resolve. By reading stories, people know they are not alone and that within the human spirit lays the capacity to solve these problems. Try to surround ourselves with as much inspiration in the form of books, music, and people as possible. By the same token people can remove themselves from the influences that are discouraging them from reaching their goal. People should try to increase their faith in…

    Creative Thinking Creative

Thinking The following transcript is based on material in Skills for Success: The Personal Development Handbook, by Stella Cottrell. Creative thinking can benefit any aspect of life, including academic study or our working day. All too often, we act as if creativity were the preserve of a special breed of people – great artists, musicians, designers and inventors. However, you don’t need to be good at drawing or painting or music in order to be creative. Because of this misperception, we can tend to underestimate our own capacity for creativity and the wide range of situations to which we could apply creative thought. In this audio, we’ll talk about practical ways that you can develop and enhance your creative capacity. What do we mean by creative thinking? Creativity is about applying the imagination to finding a solution. This could be a solution to an artistic problem, but it could just as easily refer to finding an answer to a routine work issue, resolving problems in your life, friendships or relationships, or completing study assignments. The creative aspect is in finding the solution, rather than in simply applying a pre-given formula. If you devise your own solutions, find your answers, you are thinking creatively. Sometimes, a great idea can seem to drop from nowhere. When this happens, it is easy to feel that we are very imaginative and clever, especially if the wonderful idea came to us quickly. More typically, a creative outcome is the result of a series of processes, the application of strategies, and bringing the right attitude to the task – and these may not always feel very creative at the time. Creative thought thrives in certain conditions, so to foster creative thinking, it is worth taking steps to put those conditions into place. Certain types of creative…
