Data accessibility is a necessity in the health care system. “Data management is the process of controlling the collection, storage, retrieval, and use of data to optimize accuracy and utility while safeguarding integrity” (Hebda & Czar, 2013, p.65). Nursing informatics has changed the accessibility of data and decision-making process. Nursing Informatics is the "science and practice (that) integrates nursing, its information and knowledge, with management of information and communication technologies to promote the health of people, families, and communities worldwide" (IMIA Special Interest Group on Nursing Informatics 2009). Technology has changed the way information is collected and shared. Interoperability allows to entities computer or human to share data while not changing and maintaining the original meaning data. This paper will discuss how adverse trend may occur and why to investigate further. The data needed to collect, the source, and why that data is needed. List of description of data collections methods, how the data affects the adverse trend, explain how the use of technology is used, and a description of the regulatory factors.…
Using technology allows for a quicker responds and for a better collaboration. The integrated databased used in hospital based allows healthcare providers have access to critical patient information from multiple providers 24 hours a day for better coordinated care. The implementation of nursing informatics reduces the risk of errors because now there are scanners that requires a nurse or a caregiver to scan a patient’s armband before administrating any type of medication. Nursing Informatics will continue to grow and it will allow for a more efficient and effective quality of care. Nursing informatics will be a great tool in minimizing documentation from nurses and other healthcare professionals to allow them to spend more time with the…

According to Williams and Torrens (2010), technology is the driving force of health care. It helps in the storing and organization of patient records or information and gives access to doctors to medical records. Use of technology in health care allows better and faster diagnosis and treatments. The technology is very beneficial in overcoming communication barriers in health care. It has an impact in so many areas in the healthcare world such as economic, clinical, organization, and industrial impact as well as on patients and insurance beneficiaries, social, government and policy impact. It is a hope for a long, productive life for millions of people but it has to be properly implemented by trained individuals. Health care organizations must ensure that they hire the proper staff capable to implement it while providing security and protection of patients ' data. Proper implementation of technology allows capturing, track, record and recognizing illnesses quickly and treating them effectively. Technology lets people and communities to stay healthy by providing them access whenever it is needed. Moreover, it brings opportunities to wellness and will also be used to stabilize physiology, modify risky behaviors, design and field snap clinical trials advancing biomedical knowledge and care for individuals with health care challenges. Despite of all benefits that technology brings to…
Technology is a great advancement for the health fields, especially now that it is improving every day. Technology has become an important source to obtain medical information. Everyone is using technology on so many different ways. They are using it to reach “wider populations,” contact with patients, public awareness, community outreach, and any questions that you may have medically, you can chat with doctors and nurses online as well.…
Informatics is instrumental in the expansion of knowledge. According to McGonigle and Mastrian (2012), all healthcare workers “need basic informatics skills, such as using search engines to find information about a specific topic” (p.143) and computer literacy classes. In reflection, the use of informatics tools, such as a tablet or PDA, could have been beneficial in the acquisition of new knowledge obtained from online education sources, as medication information is, currently, readily available on various online health sites. As new knowledge is acquired, the nurse…
The use of informatics has become an essential component of providing quality healthcare. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) has elected the use of informatics as its fifth and final core competency for healthcare providers. The utilization of informatics has become the main stream approach for nursing care today.…
The quality of patient care, communication between health care staff, and the safety of patients has greatly improved since the onset of technology. Through the improvement of information technology, the ability to collect data and manage the decisions based on the data collected has enhanced in the clinical setting as well as in the business portion. Health care informatics incorporates theories from informational science, computer science, and cognitive science (Englebardt & Nelson, 2002). This information helps to gather and process it in order to make an informed decision.…
Health care has come a long way in technology for the past, implementing new technology has made the health care industry grow in size. Major events of health care have paved the way for future technologies influence the physicians, administrators, clinicians, and staff to push pass the old ways of thinking and create new initiatives of information systems. Health care information will be moving forward with significant changes, technology involvement will prove to be a positive and much needed impact to the decision making process.…
Information Technology allows health care providers to collect, store, retrieve and transfer information electronically. More specific discussion of IT in health care is challenging due to lack of specific definitions, the volume of applications and a rapid pace of change in technology. Information technology has the potential to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of health care. The health care system generally uses less IT than other industries. IT increases the ability of physicians, nurses, clinical technicians, and others to readily access and use the right information about their patients to Improve care. Studies have shown that better technologies leads to better care.…
Effective communication between physicians, nurses and other allied health care professionals and patients have been linked to improve quality of care outcomes because inadequate information may result in decreased level of quality of care. The review of articles suggested that quality improvement of health outcomes strategies including the use of health information technology is key to any health care organization success. With emphasis on intervention and health information technology, the search yielded nine articles focused on the use of health information technology and the quality of care and two articles discussed the use of electronic health record as a means of communication among clinical practitioners, patients and management as the key success to improve the quality of care. Health information plays a key role in healthcare management because it could improve quality, efficiency and patient care, therefore health care organization’s information systems strategy should be aligned with its core objectives and…
Information technology, the interpretation and management of information using computers to analyze data, is not a new concept. Computers assist people day-to-day, from simple budgeting using a home computer, to larger management of government budgets and programs. The healthcare industry, especially nursing, has been slow in embracing available technology (Simpson, 2005). Daily, nurses gather data, turn their data into information, and, analyze the information using evidence-based medicine to provide patient care. Computers provide an effective and faster way to process information, share the knowledge derived from the information, and add evidence to the nursing role (Hebda & Czar, 2009). The purpose of this paper is, to evaluate the use of informatics in my clinical area and suggest areas of improvement.…
The technological trends that face health care management will change how physicians and patients communicate with one another. Having the knowledge in the field of Health Information Technology (Health IT) that includes Electronic Health Records (EHR) will increase communication between providers, physicians and patients. This type of technology is not only efficient but offers the patient access to care and information than that of past traditional methods in the delivery of care. It is important that there is an understanding of Health IT and other technologies as it will affect the traditional methods of collecting, monitoring as well as providing new ways of delivering health care…
Nurses have the ability to change and improve healthcare. They have the potential to change outcomes with the use of informatics. The use of this technology does require change; a change in the person, the institute, and the systems. Nurses are developing and applying informatics to find new knowledge and are improving the quality of care given on a global level (Edwards, H. 2011). Nurses have identified three important factors in nursing informatics: basic computer skills, informatics knowledge and information literacy (Thede, L. 2012).…
Practitioners are helping to transformation healthcare. As I enter my new role, I plan to focus a large portion of my time on patient education. Treatment compliance is highly dependent on appropriate teaching. This will not only help optimize my patient’s current medical condition but their future well-being as well. Preventative education is the new wave of healthcare. So many medical issues can be prevented by identify potential risk factors early on and formulating a treatment plan to address them. In return, my patients will be healthier and their healthcare costs will be lower. I plan to incorporate innovative ways to encourage patient interaction and education. By utilizing current computer informatics into my practice, I will be able to reach more patients and families. It would allow me to set up educational classes or join in family members during a patient’s visit via the web. Not to mention, it would allow a collaborative conversation to occur with consulting physicians, to ensure the patient felt a team approach. As healthcare continues to evolve, I plan to evolve with…
