Injustices Present in the Workplace and the Community
Ethics in Health Care

Injustices are present every day in the workplace and the community. There are several overlapping injustices between the two like lying, discrimination, and the mistreatment of people. However there are also injustices that are specific to each area. Some injustices are witnessed more than others, but each injustice is just as important. Injustices that are being committed can create frustration, unhealthiness, an overall hostile environment, and compromise your relationship with God. “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8 English Standard Version)?
Workplace injustice can span over a broad spectrum of categories. The injustice that I have witnessed the most in the workplace is lying. Employees have lied about their work, the mistakes that they have made, and have lied about the time/hours that they actually worked. Lying only creates distrustful environment in the workplace and also distrust amongst other employees. Lying can be especially toxic and demean your ethics and your relationship with God. “There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies and one who sows discard among brothers” (Proverbs 6:16-19 English Standard Version).
A more serious injustice that happens in the workplace is the mistreatment of people/employees. This can range from discrimination to harassment and bullying. Many times it is a person in a position of power or a fellow co-worker that is committing the act of discrimination. It can sometimes be a part of the culture and not realized that it is happening on a regular basis. According to the Equal
