I.

OPENING WOW
: Did you know that more than eight million people are expected to die from cancer just this year? That means there are over 1,500 people dying from this disease every day!
THESIS
: Cancer is a fatal disease that could be preventable and one day possibly curable. FORECAST
: In my speech, I will discuss exactly what cancer is, ways to protect yourself and prevent from developing cancer, and also different types of treatment if you are diagnosed with cancer.

II.

What is cancer

A. Cancer occurs when there is an uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells
1.

Cancer cells continue to grow and divide

2.

Accumulated cancer cells form tumors

3.

Tumors destroy body cells

B. Two types of tumors
1.

Malignant

2.

Benign

C. Cancers are classified according to the body part in which it originates

Ways to prevent cancer

A. Lifestyles and habits can affect the chances of future cancer development
1. Avoid smoking/drinking
2. Be active and maintain a healthy weight
3. Eat healthy and avoid fat foods (animal products) and eat plant sources (fruit, vegetables.) INTERNAL SUMMARY
: A person can take different measures to lower their chance of developing cancer IV.
