Informative speech on Helicopters
I. INTRODUCTION:

A. Attention Getter: Inspired by the flight of birds, even ancient humans dreamt of soaring at high speeds, stopping on a dime, and hovering in place, much like a hummingbird or a dragonfly. Every little boys dream is to be able to fly like a plane, I myself always had a fascination in helicopters. Helicopters are the most unique type of air craft in all of aviation.

B. Thesis: I’m now going to inform you on the history of helicopters and how the importances of helicopters have an effect on society today, according to Aerospaceweb.org on 03/11/12, Doug Jackson

C. Preview: First I will talk about the early beginnings of helicopters. Second I’m going to inform you about the significance of helicopters
Today. Thirdly I’m going to tell you about new features of helicopters that we can expect in the future.

BODY

A. First Main Point Topic Sentence: First I’m going to talk about the early beginnings of helicopters as well as the first helicopter that took flight, and how helicopters helped in the wars.

1. Claim: The early beginnings of helicopters began in 1909 when Igor Sikorsky built the world’s first helicopter.

a. Support: Although stated on popsci.com, on March 1931 Clayton Slawter they state, “it was more than 30 years later for Sikorsky’s first helicopter to successfully take flight.”

b. Impact: This was one more step in fulfilling man kinds dreams of flying on a magic carpet.

2. Claim: Now in May of 1940 Sikorsky’s first helicopter took its first flight.

a. Support: On terpconnect.umd.edu, Last Accessed Date 11/15/13, Gordon Leishman stated “Sikorsky had refined his first machines and by 1941 he had already started production of the R-4.”

b. Impact: From 1941 on is the birth of the helicopter industry, Sikorsky produced only 100 R-4 helicopters, that quickly become a success for the rotary wing aircraft.

3. Claim: In 1943 a few hundred American helicopters were put into military services in World War 2,
