How many of you out there have known someone with cancer or have fought the disease yourselves? It's almost impossible to find someone who hasn't been touched by this disease in one way or another. Unfortunately, even the treatments for cancer these days are quite serious. Some of the most common treatments such as chemotherapy come with a wide range of severe side effects that make them almost as bad as the cancers themselves.

Needless to say it makes sense to try to avoid cancer at all costs. While you are probably aware that you shouldn't be smoking, I bet many of you weren't aware that the food you eat could put you at risk for cancer. Canned Foods

It seems canned foods are just as dangerous as other foods. Most canned foods have a lining on the inside containing bisphenol-A, otherwise known as BPAs. These BPAs have been proven to increase the risk of developing several types of cancers including breast cancer, prostate cancer, and more.

3. Microwave Popcorn

There was a big scare at one time as people believed that the fumes from a bag of microwave popcorn caused lung cancer. That has since been disproven but those fumes can cause a lung disease to develop known as diacetyl. Still, the coating on the inside of the bags does breakdown into a substance called perfluorooctanoic acid, which has been shown to increase the risk of cancer.

4. Grilled Red Meat

There is nothing quite like a freshly grilled steak hot of the barbecue, but did you know that when meat is cooked at high temperature, such as on a grill, a byproduct called heterocyclic aromatic amines is produced. These are known carcinogens that could increase your risk of developing several types of cancers. Unfortunately, according to the National Cancer Center, there are still no official guidelines from healthcare experts concerning meat prepared in this manner.

5. Potato

Breast cancer happens to be the leading type and has caused a significant amount of death within our communities throughout the world. Studies have shown that almost all of these types of cancers result from air pollutants and chemical exposures that are harmful and disrupt hormones. “When breasts are exposed to hormone-like substances during those sensitive times, it could influence susceptibility of the tissue to carcinogens or other hormonal stimuli that could increase cancer risk later on” (Konkel, 2013) There are things that we may use on a daily basis to help contribute to the pollutants as well, such as food, beverages, the use of containers, and even…
